Don't know if any of you UK guys can get it, but there was an article in Forza #71, the most recent issue, about Bill Collins' 250GT Lusso s/n 5467GT which he has had since 1971. In there it lists all of the RHD Lussos that were sold new into the UK, and one that went to South Africa. A few little additions on the cars mentioned:

4435GT: First registered on July 20, 1963 in England, ordered new through Maranello Concessionaire's order #68

4845GT: First registered on October 10, 1963 in England, ordered new through Maranello Concessionaire's order #88

4945GT and 4655GT: as mentioned earlier, not originally RHD Lussos

4849 has finally seen some daylight and is very much in RHD form. Question is was it a LHD conversion. Apparently when it arrived from Africa in poor condition it was RHD

5031 was advertised in the November 1998 Du Pont Registry magazine.

The list of autos for sale by the place read for the Lusso:

"1963 250 GT Lusso. Chassis #5031. Comp. prepared, FIA papers, GTO engine, long and successful history. Major event eligible. $195,000"

The ad was by "Cars International Associated" at 4 Heybridge House Industrial Estate, Maldon, Essex, CM9 4XL UK. Telephone: 011-44-1621-841881.

They had a SWB, LWB, Maser 250 F, and F50 in the ad, too. All with serials.

    Here's a pic of 5031 currently: http://www.classicdriver.com/uk/magazine/3200.asp?id=12160

When I owned Lusso 4945 in 1976 it was red w/ white interior, LHD. I bought it from an estate in Arlington Mass and sold it to a dealer in NY in '78. Smoked a little on startup but ran great, showed 44k miles. Sold it to buy a '58 Speedster which I still have.

Photo below is not mine, but clearly shows '5 FXR' is the plate on the Matchbox 250 Lusso. Not sure if it is already common knowledge that s/n 4435GT's plate was on this, but there we go.

Sorry for any confusion... I realise that '5 FXR' has long been associated with s/n 4435GT. I just wasn't aware if people had bothered to study the Lesney Matchbox car before (I couldn't find any other references to it on here). :)

Anyone have any idea why that particular Lusso's plate was used on the car? And any idea why the toy car was green? Oh... and any idea why it had a tow ball?!

    Hi Ed,
I did a little looking. The answer seems to be- to tow a Honda motorcycle on a Honda logo'd trailer(!).
Pic courtesy of an eBay ad where someone has this setup listed.

This picture gave me such a flashback to my boyhood. I had all three pieces. I remember being devastated when I lost a tire on the Lusso. They were soft rubber and actually slipped on and off the wire wheels.:)
