I feel your pain, that just sucks
I’d be tempted to order what I needed from whoever can supply it, and bugger the special relationship the workshop has with certain companies. It’s your car and these delays are beyond ridiculous.
Of course you can. The workshop doesn’t have to stand behind the quality of the product supplied by someone else anyway, just their workmanship in the install. It’s the manufacturer of the product who would have to stand by it. I’ve bought plenty of parts independently from wherever I wanted and had them fitted by both the dealer and independents. In fact the dealer was more than happy to fit various Hill Engineering products I bought but obviously if the part failed I’d have to go back to Hill, not them. I don’t see the big deal.
Sorry...I forgot that i was dealing with stupidity....you can't do that AND expect the mechanic to accept responsibility....just like David said, which I referred to in my post. Apologies for not taking your intellect into account with my post.
I assumed the same thing when reading your post. You also said I was 100% wrong, which of course I wasn’t. Unless, of course, your version of 100% is different to the traditional one. In any case you managed to make two mistakes in less than 10 words. Good effort!
lol....wtf?? *shakes head* I said David was right for the reasons he mentioned. It's funny how dumb people don't realise they're dumb. Trying to prove a point which never existed is further evidence. And you fly a plane?? *shudder*
I have to agree with Steve on this one. If the part fails it comes under the manufacturer. The time frame for ordering or making parts has to be reasonable. In Davids case I don't think it is, so any decent mechanic should have a plan B......Or is David expected to wait years for the parts? My patience would have worn thin a long time ago and we are about to go into 2019......Greg's suggestion sounds like a good plan B to me......
The trouble is we are talking about a complete engine rebuild and the parts in question may be cylinder liners - but who wants to risk all that cost for parts that won't then be part of the engine builders responsibility? Poor David.
As frustrating as the delays are, I would go with C.M's part supplier recommendations. They probably rebuild more Ferrari engines than anyone else in Australia and do have a clue as to what suppliers they should be using and have to stand behind what they do. If they supply the parts and build the engine the outcome is entirely their responsibility. Having a car sitting around in their workshop waiting for parts isn't in their best interest either- I reckon they would be just as keen to complete your car as you want to drive it. That said, your car has been sitting for a while , which means that once the engine is done there might be other things that need attention - ie brakes and suspension. M
Relax PP.....Go and pour yourself a double Claytons on the rocks.....I really feel for poor David as I would hate to be in his shoes....I think I would have imploded long ago....The only stupid thing here by the sounds of it is the lack of support he's getting while people are happily taking his money.....Hope you get some good news for Christmas David...
