Hi all. Like many 360 owners, one of my keys is in deplorable condition, with the silver paint flaking off, scratched, and bubbled, and the other is starting to wear. I want to make them better, but I don't want to inadvertently diminish the car's value. I've seen and liked both the people who painted the keys red and cleared them, and people who bright-polished and cleared the metal. The paint/clear will all be professionally done with either Glasurit or Deltron. What would you do?

i think you should refinish your key to the stock silver. if you want a red key, buy one off of Steve Bisel (forum member) at http://www.klassikcarkeys.com

I don't think a colored original 360 key would increase the car's value, if anything, it might detract from it.

The key's color will have virtually no affect on a Ferrari's value. As long as you have two keys and three fobs, everything else to do with the keys has negligible effect. So do whatever makes you happy.

Kinda what I figured, but being a new owner, y'all are really weird about stuff sometimes. Viper owners are like, "you changed the oil every year, right? Them thar tires got tread left on 'em?"

Ferrari owners are like, "Can you send me service records establishing how often you had the interior seat and steering wheel covers shipped back to Italy to be dry-cleaned?"

Geez, I'd hate to hear what you say about us Corvette owners...

But yeah, as far as keys go, there is nothing special about them, no transponder, etc. so nothing wrong with a refinished or aftermarket key. I will be getting one from klassik as soon as I buy the ol' lady something to justify me paying $125 for a car key.

I've been a (multiple) Vette owner for the last 8 years; I'm just messing around. Thanks for all the insight. I'll probably refinish these anyway because they look really rough, but those $125 keys look great.

As a former vette owner as well, the only thing I don’t like about a lot of them, is their inability to understand why anyone would buy anything other than a vette.

I just purchased a new key from the dealer. Mine too are scratched and some paint fade. Ask the dealer did he know if Ferrari still sold the original style key, didn't get a straight answer. Ordered anyway , and it is not the original style. Some disappointment, but at least I can use the new key until I can get the originals redone(is that possible?). Glad I didn't order a set.I like the look of the stock, original key with the silver Cavallino. The new design has the rectangle shield(like

I'm thinking about ordering a key from a dealer, but if it isn't the same as the original, I might rethink that. If you have a chance to upload a photo, I'd love to see what they sent you.

Doug, just strip the paint and polish with a good metal polish. You’re key will look better than new and not decrease value one bit. Do a search here and you’ll find many pre and post pics.

Can you let us know what the other side looks like? Is there a big rubber button like for the F430 or is it just a plain silver back?

Plain silver. The dealer had ask if I could bring the car in to be programmed, then realized it was for a 360. Was told 430 and later has the security control all in one, instead of separate fob as with the 360.

thanks! if you were to get the key painted red, you'd almost have the coveted enzo key that everyone asks crazy money for!

I'm with Graz above -- just strip the paint off and rub the bare aluminum every now and then with metal polish. I think the keys look good that way, feel good in the hand, and I see little benefit from a clear coat. I would caution to be careful with the little horsey on the key when you strip it. One of mine came off in the process. It was easy to glue back on, but would have been a problem if it had gotten lost somehow.

I remember back in the day seeing that jimmy guy selling the Enzo keys for $300 that was years ago before i ever thought i'd have a ferrari -i guess now those are extinct and they sell for thousands. I'm probably gonna order the red one from Steve.
