    Update ...... alternator and battery both needed replacement.

    If it is just the voltage regulator, you can replace it yourself without removing the alternator from the car. With the low miles we put on the cars, the bearings and brushes are probably just fine

    I think my problem it the cars age, and the miles (42,000 plus) stuff is starting to wear out ;)
