What is so expensive about the 360 that won’t break in the 430? Belts? $2400 every 3-5 years. What’s the price differential between a stick 360 and a stick 430?

Sell the 488 and the Porsche. Buy a 360 coupe with a stick. You’ll have enough money to fund the factory and keep the car indefinitely. I drive mine every week, as reliable as my 986 Boxster. I’ll never sell... don’t have to. Paid for keep and enjoy. 430 stick would be even better but is it worth the price differential? I didn’t think so when I bought my 360 and I don’t now.

Big difference between steel rotors and carbon! Some other issues popping up in 430s... occasional water pump and the ediff. Not cheap.

There's no answer to the OPs question.

For example, we could say the 348 is the most reliable and inexpensive to maintain, however let's say by a stroke of bad luck the cam belt goes then he's toast. At the same time it could last 20 years.

On the other side, we could say to stay away from the 355 due to the dreaded headers/valve guides yet the 355 may go forever without that issue.

The bottom line is if you are concerned about maintenance and the costs of it, then perhaps a Ferrari is not the make you should be looking at.

    1) A 430 Scud or a 458 does not have a manual transmission.
    2) You shouldn't be worried about depreciation with your 488 as I am still seeing 458s sell for what someone bought them for new.
    3) In my opinion a 430 is the absolute best Ferrari maintenance wise. Manual 430s are selling at a premium and for good reason!

Thank you! Manual 360 is the best car out there for the money.

Interesting thread, and great for the OP to recognise that ownership of a new Ferrari isn't for everybody.

I think the answer depends ultimately how much capital the OP wants to release for his business investment!

You are comparing cars that cost from £50k to £250k. So one 488 or three 360s or five 348s! In my view maintenance cost in that band is completely irrelevant and lost in the weeds! Also depreciation is a bigger hit on a 488 than maintenance on a 348/355 will ever be.

348 - 458 is a massive difference is style of car / driving experience.

I'd set yourself a budget (based on what capital you want to do business stuff with) and go from there. Test drive a variety of cars and see what you like most. They are all different. Any dealer who wants to sell a car will let you test drive it. If they wont...keep on walking there are plenty of others!

As to your kids not liking your Ferrari or Vet. Pffff, happy days. You don't have to ferry them around in it, more miles for you!

    Good luck and post pics!

No. Every single 2013 - 2017 Spider that I have looked at it selling for what it sold for new. I've been considering pulling the plug but waiting until my new house is built but I'd buy now if I found the right opportunity. I could post a link for five or six cars that fit this description here's one:

Strange market you are seeing up north. Used 2013-2015 458 Spiders are selling for $100,000++ below MSRP at this point in the USA. There were a couple of awesome ones that sold on here for $210-220k range recently (E-man's and the blue one that YC had) that must have had MSRP well over $300k. There has been nothing unusual about 458 Spider depr in the USA...its down as as expected over time. There isn't a single used 458 selling for its new price (nor should there be of course).

That car you posted had an MSRP of $330k CAD?

The best guess as to "lowest cost to maintain and own (depr)" Ferrari with a gated manual (this is what I take as the OP's question) is 360 or 430 gated manual car. Cost of entry for the 430 seems to be 50-100% higher than the 360 though (I've seen several 360 gated coupes trading hands below $100k, but 430s seem to be in "market disconnect" land wherein sellers mostly want bank and buyers aren't sure of market yet). The belt change issue is noise level (less than $1000/year in cost - ~$3k range every 3 years - heck the higher registration/annual tax/lic and/or sales tax on 430 higher price offsets the cost of belts over several years). So...get the one your wallet can afford. 430 is "better" in most ways (more modern interior, higher hp and torque) but its ~double the price.

I wonder if there are manual 430s with problematic gearboxes because of non-skilled drivers don't operating them correctly?

there is nothing wrong with a f1 430.
and from a value standpoint, at 60k cheaper than the manual, then its an even better deal.
    chains instead of belts.
easy maintenance. its the bargain of ferrari land. and almost no depreciation

For great sound, nothing beats a 355 with a Tubi exhaust or a Capristo 2/3 exhaust. As for its maintenance will outright kill you, buy a well sorted car, it costs you less in the long run. I have two 355 and they have not killed me yet.

Some day we will be driven by the new electric autono Ferrari and jealous of the crazy bastard that still turns wrenches and 3d prints parts to illegally streak down the public roads lighting up the night with scary cool sound.

Get the 458. After the 488 the 355, 360 and 430 will feel too slow. The 458 is reliable, has the double clutch and the CCB’s and that magnificent sound

400 miles driving is hardly enjoying the dream though. I do get where he is coming from.
That being said the maintenance on older ferraris is not that bad...
