Would it only contact one point when it was also in the down position? I'm assuming it needs rubber on both sides.

Nah just a stop on the back side flap so it has teh same interference as the oem flap.

Found the flap.... I got my car back from service, I had it serviced before I ever took possession hen I bought it 4 weeks ago, I got a box back of parts like unused oil and used tensioners, alternator and what not. (I supplied all the parts and oil etc) The flap was put in that box, I found it when I was going though to looking to inspect the tensioner pads etc.

Back to fabricating spacers to tilt the front seat and get thigh support. I am still going to see about fabricating some as spares by welding aluminum plate to tube.

This has happened to my flap motor, gears are as soft as chocolate. Has anyone crossreferenced that part? Did not found anything

I ordered a NEW one for good measure and will add some grease to it. It is a cheap part all things considered.

What property of these gears causes them to go soft? Will a part sitting on a shelf in an airconditioned environment go soft? (i.e. age alone). Finland is not known for its high temperatures.

Make sure that the grease is compatible with this type of plastic.

I dont really know, but i believe its something to do with age. You could literally scrape those teeths off with a nail. But that bigger gear is different material than that smaller

Anyone who has replaced a failed recirculation flap actuator motor, if you still have the failed unit and don't want it, I'll take it. PM me.

These type of small plastic gears are known to go soft with age. Just ask anyone with a pre '95 Porsche about the gears in the odometer going out because of the small gear. It is reported that the grease originally used is the cause. Only solution is to replace.
