I've always found these allocation games fascinating, not as much for what they say about Ferrari but about the owners. It's like the quote about wanting something is actually more fun than actually owning it. When you are so rich that you can just walk into any store/dealer/house and buy whatever you want, it makes the process a lot LESS fun, not more. Playing this game is one of the few ways where the ultra rich actually has a challenge/work to get something material.
Can't comment on being that rich lol, but I think a lot of people will agree that the "hunt" is actually one of the most exciting parts of ownership. In fact, I know a few people who agree that actually getting the car was when things started to go downhill. The search and the honeymoon, then downhill until it's sold and the hunt begins anew.
I keep going back and forth between a 458 and 488. 458 because the sound is amazing and 488 for the looks. I would prefer a spider if anyone sees a great deal!
When the economy corrects again and markets plunge 40% these cars will as well New model pricing increases are the only things keeps used prices as high as they are. All these cars (even the LE models) will be way cheaper 2 years from now.
Make sure you test drive 458 vs 488 spider first. The 488 is tighter and less flex, and still sounds pretty good in a different way.
Totally possible. I was told (true or false?), Speciale coupes trade in value went down 100k from $340 to around $240 after a year before rebounding (now back to MSRP trade in value ($340+_). I was told it was because of too much supply and lower demand because of the harshness of the car (noise and ride) was not as appealing to the number of people that Ferrari anticipated. Not sure about the effects of the economy if any at the time since it was only 3 years ago.
I don't remember seeing Speciales anywhere near that price. I don't follow them religiously, but I browse eBay a lot, typically sorting be "highest price" and I don't remember seeing Speciale coupes trading near those levels.
Yes agree. The 458 sound is better. But the 488 has a great balance of performance and sound. At the end of the day, both matter.
I have to believe that most of the bad feelings come from bad salespeople. It takes allot of talent to have a client buy a car they don’t want in order to buy the car they do and still have them feel good about the purchase. Only the best know how to properly deal with this type of situation. Good help is hard to find, even for Ferrari
I’m pretty sure something similar happened in Europe. I picked up a 2008 scuderia with 6k km for €102,000 in 2014 (without tax). I’m sure at the time I remember seeing speciale’s for 160 ish (again without tax). Could be wrong but that was my recollection at the time.
agreed with a few others. Speciales never went that low but perhaps once the 488 was announced more people started to trade them in resulting in a temporary glut. Look at Ferrari prices during the financial crisis from 2009-2011. 360s were 70k all day and 550s were all in the 80s. It'll happen again.
this thread cracks me up! Lets break it down I won't play the game and buy a Portofino to get a Pista thats 100k over sticker (Right!) I am boycotting Porsche cause of the ADM - you think they care??? theres a ton of people who will buy cars while you sulk in your own boycott world! I bought a McLaren or Lamborghini because they treat me better Hahahahahahhahaha of course they do! cause the bath your going to take on those cars is obscene! they are adding the vaseline!! My friend lost almost 90k on his 2k Performante! Yea! you keep telling yourselves you made the right choice! lol say it enough times you might believe it!! The people complaining about not getting cars are just mad cause they aren't getting one!
