The Type 57G from the Simeone Foundation Museum, when at the Goodwood FoS in 1999. There seems to be some confusion surrounding the exact number of this car. The Goodwood entry list says 57003. The Simeone website says 57G 01 but also shows a chassis plate with the number 57335! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you Uwe, finally there s 2 important Bugatti page.. Bugatti builder and Bugatti registry. I wonder if there s something in France about this Thema? Anyway, the link sent is perfect!
the engine number is 1 ..... in the original records you will find >moteur 57G n° 1< 57335 is a factory number and has been used several times Uwe Hucke restored the car and in 1981 he obtained a chassis identification plate of 57335 from Mr Beer today it is undisputed that the car 57335 was a 57T works car
Thank you Uwe. So complicated! I had seen on Bugattibuilder that 57335 has 3 entries but none of those entries show this car. Where does the 57003 come from? Is this just Goodwood, again, attempting to make people think they have genuine cars there that are actually not what they seem? Robert
57003 is unknown to me ..... but the 57G is original (restored) one of these three: http://www.bugattibuilder.com/photo/thumbnails.php?album=5887
These are not great pictures but are from the Monaco Historic Races in 2000. The white car, #27, of Walter Rothlauf, the yellow car #29 (23 AAW) of Michael Steel (37178) and the blue car #15 (3399-ZA) of Christopher Gardner (4882(2)). here is the book >From MILAN TO MOLSHEIM< in the internet (unfortunately with errors) http://www.youblisher.com/p/1457-From-Milan-to-Molsheim
4059 is the chassis number of type 32 (bought by Junek) so that Junek did not have to pay any duty ... the type 35 and type 35c were also given this chassis number
It looks that way! It seems that Bugatti, and the owners, were doing what Ferrari continued to do years later! I had found the car listed on Bugattibuilder which is known as 4572/4059/4831 but this yellow Type 35 was not there. Now that I know a little more I have had another look and the car is listed as 4831/4059. There are some other pictures there too taken at the same Goodwood event.
But finally who did this? Bugatti or some owners? Some of them are sharks in clear water, just seeing speculation with easy models.
I wonder if Bugatti made cars with same sn, feel strange... I mean, some owners change numbers, sometimes they recuperate spares parts as engine, chassis at the end you have a sn for two cars. An exemple concerning Ferrari you have (in CH) two same cars with the same sn.
it's very easy: the customer gives his car in payment (example 4059) ..... he gets the new car with the same chassis number 4059 ..... and does not need to pay customs fees Bugatti did that often
Ah OK, I understand now. Bugatti and customers won together in this practice. But all numbers are the same? engine, intern codes...
