How many Boanos were made with alloy body?

What is the market value of one of them?

    Hello,
the number of Alloy Boanos should be around 16
(inkl. the cars of the Pininfarina pre-Series), have to check
my notes for a valid number...

And the value: Very difficult to say...
A car (S/N 0565 GT) was offered for nearly 1 Jahr in Switzerland
with an asking price around 1,3 Mio sfr.

    best wishes,
    BjörnS

Save $200-600k and buy a steel bodied Boano

yes, they are special..and 3 or 4 have a racing history...
so it depends on what you're looking for...
If you want a nice touring or concours car a steel Boano could be the right choice.
But if like the coachwork, thinking of racing and want something special I would
    vote for an alloy Bonao...
    just my 2 cents...

    best wishes,

    old thread sorry!

love the look of the Boano's, was 0447GT one of the Boanos with racing history?

barchetta says it raced in the 1956 MM, quite an important fact but it was not mentioned in either of the Sotheby's auction descriptions in 2011 or 2015.

They even quoted Marcel Massini in the 2015 listing but again no word about the Mille Miglia.

Seems weird, anyone with incite? maybe from the great Marcel himself?

0447 GT was not raced in the MM, neither in 1955, nor 1956 nor 1957.
And you mean RM Sotheby's, not Sotheby's.

Opps yes I did mean RM Sotheby's.

Any idea which Boano was raced as car #453 at the 56 MM and pictured in the vintage photo on 0447GT's barchetta?

The histories of early cars have been seriously confused. Nobody seems to have been very interested in these cars as long as they were thought to be cheap and boring road cars, and now writers of auction catalogue descriptions are jumping into quick conlusions to boost the cars that come up for a sale. MM56 cars seem to have been 0523GT (#453) and 0525GT (#459).

Luglio, who raced #453 said that the car was too heavy and there was not enough oomph to get it really going. The rest is history, he then went ahead and built himself an ultra-light Zagato with a extra-hot engine.

Personally I would like to find final proof on which early car did Guido Cantelli own. Enzo Ferrari says he made good friends with the young talent and arranged a special car for him. Cantelli soon died in the famous aviation accident in Orly Airport in Paris and the car likely returned to the factory. All sorts of stories have been told, but so far I have not seen any proof.

Race #453 of Luglio-Frignani in the 1956 Mille Miglia was on Genova license plates "GE 88455" and chassis number 0523 GT.
I have the Italian road registration paperwork for this.

0447 GT was never raced in the Mille Miglia.

Great info! thanks kare and marcel!

The auction prices of 0447gt didn't make sense for a car that was ex-MM.

I have owned 0535GT and 0605GT. I seem to recall that one of them was aluminum, but could be wrong. Anyone? Also had PF proto 0429GT.

I recall it was for sale in Italy 2 years ago no? Asking was $1.5m?
It's a conversion as i understand (started as a 250PF and owner converted it into a Boano looking.) No info on who did the job or when.
I think it looks beautiful. A nice balance of the boano classy looks with a bit of competizione looks...

Would make a interesting purchase for $400k or so..

Kind of like any other fake “recreation“, though personally I would rather spend that kind of money on any “real” car, even non-Ferrari.

ok. so its an original ellena body. hopefully it will be reunited w its chassis. i prefer the looks of a pf coupe over an ellena. the pf must have been in an accident as this is a strange swap.
what other reasons to do a swap? gain entrance to MM?
