Is there any substance to the rumors about an 812 spider? The top is supposed to be similar to the Portofino mechanism, rather than the 458/488 folding hardtop.

    All the contrary.
The top is very similar to the 488 mechanism, but shorter and without vents.
Only 2 units has been “finished”.
One for crash test and the another one as the very first unit.

    Nice sketch
Too bad the real car won’t be nearly as sexy.

Thanks! But it can be created to be sexy.
I have some details of the rear deck you cant see here, but I think it would look awesome.
Looking for a commission with Fast Cars Ltd, Redondo Beach.
They produced my 599 Spider Project17. They did a superb job.
    I have designs for 812 or F12.:)

    Gents,

@Marcel Massini confirmed there is a 812 convertible coming, with a folding hardtop similar to the system used on the 458/488 platform, with some differences

Let's discuss the car and post everything related to it here

I ordered one at my dealer a month ago.

Well I tried to anyway, the trouble is he has not heard anything about it so, I could not give him a deposit.

It’s a case of Ferrari Chat being having the info first again.

Mind you I ordered my 812 Superfast before it had a name, on the strength of the info on Ferrari Chat. ;)

Some people here tried to explain me the limited editions open V12 with crappy tops were a smart move from Ferrari.

Still don't understand. Regular 550,575,599 and F12 spiders would have sold like nasty little cakes... So logical. no car is that segment doesn't have its convertible version

Wonderful news, Olivier! Will this be a VS ie; very limited or along the same pathway as the 458/488 coupes to spiders releases?
Thanks again for the exciting news!

Can you provide some color on this confirmation? I just spoke with my dealer about this on Friday and he "doubts" (my word).

Yes, there is a reason why I address him as “Mr. Massini” in every post in which I refer to him. For me, it doesn’t get more credible as a source related to ALL things Ferrari - past, present AND future. Mic drop!

Olivier the Aperta version is always a breath of fresh air of a model making us look at it from a different perspective. They didn't do it with the F12 Berlinetta what I regret but it seems the 812 will have an Aperta version. Looking at the 812 Aperta pictured below it doesn't look bad but to my eyes and from that angle it shows a bit of a raised rear like the California.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I have some interesting information about several models I want to share. I've recently heard from a very reliable source that a Portofino Coupé is coming along with 812 "Spider" and 488s successor V8TT Hybrid and not a V6 like someone wants to belive. V6 will be a new Ferrari-branded line that goes under the V8 cars, but most of you know this as this is old news. Anyways, Portofino Coupé, 488 successor and 812 Spider are all coming within 12 months. I don't know if 812 Spider/Aperta is limited or an additional mainstream model, but I do believe it's limited. If so, I would expect a facelift (different front end with new headlights).

Oh and btw, according to my source, a new line of cars are coming with more vintage design, like 288 GTO and F40 etc. And no, this is not the Icona-line but something additional. So yeah, that's everything I know. 812 Spider is coming very soon :) And what a car that will be!

Thanks for the information. It sure is fun to wonder what they might do! My take on all this: different people hear different things and sometimes its even how it gets presented. In some cases personal bias/ perspective even plays a role. Then we hear they are doing this and that, and some time goes by, and we see the final result, and we see the information had some truth in it, and some things that never ended up happening. It's hard to know. My gut feeling is playing homage so directly to the past is best done with Icona and the other models should look to the future for inspiration.

This is the second, and latest quote from Marcel about the Spider:-
Just wait till the 812 S Spider comes out (with a folding roof similar to the Portofino).

    Marcel Massini
I call him Marcel because he is my friend, well ok I have only meet him once, well ok it was just for 5 Miniutes. But he is a really nice guy, and I am sure he won't mind me calling him Marcel as long as I spell it right.:)
