100% original. Chris Craft ML 4" bore 4 1/2" stroke 145 hp @ 3000 rpm 269 lb-ft torque weighs about 950 lbs with transmission
When you restore do you have to make pistons, rings, bearings and so on or are parts available? I assume when you run it you lift it out of the water and into a shed immediately? I grew up in the middle '60's taking vacations in Northern Michigan. Chris Craft's and wood Century's were "The" boats. The boats were only in the water a couple of months a year and then into dry storage. Fiberglass boats had started to become popular and one of the sheds with the wood boats caught on fire. So many of them lost forever.
I live in the South (AL) and the boat sits on a lift in the water in an enclosed boat house all year. No shrinking and swelling. This boat is a survivor from Michigan and has about 95% original wood and 100% original hardware and running gear. Engine parts are available from numerous on-line sources as are various other parts. A lot of trouble and work but they aren't making them any more.
We had a wood boat growing up. It's where I started. I had to sand and putty fill it every spring. 18' and 100HP. I thought that was a lot.
When I was a kid, I loved the smell of wooden boats. I loved the sound the water made when it lapped against the boat while fishing. Fiberglass works 1,000% better, but it ain’t got no soul. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I didn't know anything about he ML. The first Chris Crafts I had exposure to had Chrysler 318's if I remember correctly. I got onto the wooden boat forums. Fascinating history on the ML/Hercules and the Hercules company. You've got a beautiful piece of history.
Thank you very much! Right out of the beauty parlor (fresh varnish & paint). Engine original. A preservation NOT a restoration. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Beautiful! Safe to assume you are a CCABC & ACBS guy? Woody Boater every morning? Will you take her to Sunnyland next March?
