+1 a real F40, just added bodywork, the ad is over anxious to call it an "LM" though ....chances are it came from japan IMO, they love customizing thier exotics
I find it interesting because it was stolen in Italia in 1991, and no one seems to know if it was ever recovered. And since stolen cars often go to Japan, it would make sense for this non-LM to come out of there looking like an LM.
that's cool info Carbon so what happens now (if) sold outside of japan, does the last registered owner (at time of theft) have claim to the car?
I have no idea how that works. It was stolen 05 May 1991, out of Correggio, Italia. I don't know who the owner was at the time, I don't know if the car was ever recovered, if the insurance company settled, if the owner has since passed away, etc. I've never heard of Race Cars Direct, so I don't know their reputation or resources; but some lineage on this car would be nice - and perhaps that information could be used to determine the answers to the above questions.
i don't know either ....it seems to me, even if the insurance company did pay out, there'd be some sort of lean or restricton on that car (VIN) being able to just pop up and be registered with a clear title? i could be wrong?
I assume, and I'm just assuming here, that if the insurance company paid out for the car, then the insurance company is the rightful owner. I don't know how things work overseas, I don't know if there's a statute of limitations on this sorta thing. Perhaps someone with more knowledge can chime in and shed some light on these questions.
that could be, they paid it out, so entitled owners, if or when it reappears +1 i'm curious to know how that works too, otherwise it'd be an easy "washing" of stolen cars method; steal, store for some years, re-sell clean ....i can't see that going without notice?
Carbon, Racecarsdirect.com is simply the internet advertising site. Sellers place an ad on the site, buyers browse it looking for cars. Some friends of mine bought and later sold a works Audi A4 Supertouring car using that site, and at the time (8 years ago) the majority of its audience was in Europe. Probably gets much more international traffic now.
Ah, I see. So it looks like the selling dealer is Legends Automotive - does anyone know if that's a reputable outfit?
Thank you, Paul. So then they would have some history on the car? Can they shed any light on this car's fate from the '90s?
