Hello all, first post for me as I just bought a sweet 348 and am going to start the winter project of getting the engine out and serviced. Lots of stuff in this forum and others, highly appreciated. I'll contribute as I move on.

In the meanwhile I want some advice on triggering codes, and whether it is all so important right now.

The car is already up in the garage and I don;t want to drive it on the Canadian roads right now. Last week we did a leak down test and thus erased the existing CEL codes that were flashing (and I never bothered to extract).

Now I'm trying to get them to trigger again while the car is up by simply running it, but alas the CELs won't re-appear. Yes the bulbs are in there and the CELs illuminate during starting procedure.

    Thanks in advance.

    Steve

Oh, in case you ask, we did a compression test at the same time and thus removed the ECU fuses, resulting in the loss of codes.

Personally I would let sleeping dogs lie and when you drop your engine unplug every electrical connector you can find on and around the engine and it's wiring harness, spray them with contact cleaner, plug and unplug them a couple times, then put it back together and see what happens. Remember you can "drive" it without getting it salty by jacking up the rear enough to get the tires off the ground and then start it and run it up and down the gears as much as you want ( with appropriate ventilation)

    Now Mitch......:D

But seriously, you probably won't get a code to reappear w/o driving unless it is something like a totally failed sensor or component. Things like O2 sensors, etc, generally don't throw a code unless the signal they are sending is out of the acceptable range, and that usually required driving under load to trigger.

I like the humor here, this is a great community! I decided to just move forward with the project and worry about the CEL after I pulled the engine out, serviced it the way I plan then get it back together. The lights were always intermittent at best anyway.
