The 4_8 is better! Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
Same here. Turned it on once, the day I got the car, just to see if it worked and if not, so I could have it fixed/replaced under warranty. Apparently I have the JBL sound system and speakers on the back of my seats, but can't even tell you if they're any good or not Kind regards, Nuno.
I believe both are wonderful Ferraris. It is my humble opinion that the 458 has a very large fan base, made up of owners and enthusiasts, because it's special. The 488 also has a very large fan base, because it's fast. Not that the 458 isn't fast nor that the 488 isn't special too, but I believe if something is special, it'll have a lasting impact, whereas if something is just fast/faster, it's impact tends to wear off in a more pronounced fashion and/or disappear over time, namely when the next fastest thing is released. Kind regards, Nuno.
Hi I do drive regularly an Speciale and occasionally a 488 of a friend. Also I have a McLaren, turbo of course. Impossible to compare both engines. One is torque and growling everywhere (and this hesitating turbo response the first second), the other revvy, screams up there upscale and direct response on the gas. End of an era. 488 us better car for sure but...
Sadly I had to revert to factory settings as car started misfiring at low revs and error message p2440 and p2442 came up this morning. Ferrari tech said he has seen a lot of these and it’s brst to fit capristo. Car now drives perfect but doesn’t sound half as good ☹️
Hello Jasflora. Did you pin the valves open or did you use a switch? I’ve just plugged my lines and am hoping not see errors.
I had dealer pin them Was fine for a few days sound was fantastic Yesterday it started mis firing in low gears lots of loud pops no error messages on dash but I knew something was wrong. Took it to dealer who found pending errors on left bank. Unpinned valves and it runs fine though too quiet. He said only solution is a capristo or equivalent Image Unavailable, Please Login
I bought the Tubi straight pipe exhaust which has the valves so that the ECU can manage backpressure as designed. The dealer service rep told me this was the best way to go. I keep the car in RACE and the valves open at 2500 RPM. The sound of this exhaust is really an improvement because it removes the baffle/muffler. I am very happy with the improvement in sound and have not had any CELs or bad performance.
Without a shadow of a doubt the 458 sounds significantly better. 488 is without a doubt significantly quicker. Nothing silly, just facts.
Wonder how the sounds of a Speciale compare with a Pista. Haven't heard the Pista "live" so I have no way of comparing. The stock Speciale sound was the only thing I found disappointing on my car. Hope the Pista is better.
Yes, I thought I would try pinning them first The mid firing put me off and I’m pinned them. I miss the soundtrack though so will have the Capristo installed for spring. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Same here. The vacuum diaphragm bypass valves on my 2018 488 were plugged on day 1; 1600 miles and 7 months later, absolutely no issues whatsoever. Just a great sounding exhaust.
The 488 sounds great for what it is, but there is no substitute for revs in my opinion - the extra 1500 in the case of the 458 making all the difference in terms of that visceral scream.
Agree with you and sadly there was no fix to be had to get the wonderful sound back like the Italia or spider. I’ve always wondered if ferrari intentionally made the speciale sound worse as prep for the disappointment of the 488. They didn’t have to change the internals for the speciale but chose to.
Spent some time driving the 488 spider today and reinforced my opinion the sound is significantly inferior vs the 458. The 488 is far more rigid and compliant as a spider though. Wonderful improvement over the 458 spider! But I found myself bored even when pushing hard. Perhaps the Perf Spyder has jaded me a touch but I wasn’t enthralled at all in the 488. No offense meant.
Drove 488 spider again this morning. If the Perf is a 9/10 in terms of rigidity, the 488 is 8/10. Pretty damn good. You could drive the 488 cross country no problem. Never felt that way in any of the 458's I owned.
Guys, at risk of spamming you, this is what a 488 can sound like! https://www.scuderiacarparts.com/blog/ferrari-488-upgrades/
