I wonder if it'll be called another 488 something or a completely new model name. Where is 'Ferr9000' when we need him?:)

Not sure of the accurracy if the information gathered here, but here's my latest understanding, for what it's worth:
    - first half 2019:
    - new model on new platform (V8 hybrid) above the 488
    - rejuvenated 488 (?) on the existing platform
    - later:
    - real successor of 488 (potentially V6?)
This being for the current V8 range, for the V12 the first introduction (second half 2019?) could be the 812 spider.
All appears to me as speculation, although we should have the first indications pretty soon.

Our friend says one V12 model for next year. Must be 812 Aperta.

I've got a few questions though.

    - Will the next 488 be called another 488 something?
    - Any chance of it being a hybrid? Probably not, because of the same chassis. But what do we know?
    - Is it limited? Again probably not, but we don't know for sure.
    - How significant is it compared to the Pista?

Not much to ask about the 'Big brother'. But how much higher its price is, compared to the 488? Would also like to know more about its performance. But I guess it being faster than the Laferrari is enough for now. :)

You think they're referring to the 488 successor from next year? Or the one with a V6 + hybrid?

I believe you are right on almost everything but it seems the real 488 replacement will be in 2021 .
Remember what they said " full hybrid mid engine range by 2021 "

I'm assuming since they say full Hybrid range by 2021 that there will be an interim non hybrid
V8TT to replace the 488 before the V6 Hybrid arrives probably because the V6 is an all new engine
and there's more development lead time needed

Makes more sense. Use the V8 to milk as much dough as possible before the arrival of the hybrid v6 power by 2020/2021.

Do you think it's gonna have a completely new face? But that wouldn't make it a facelift I guess. I really don't understand why they're making another 488. And what difference it makes against a Pista? o_O

With regards to Ferr9000 saying it's more than that, I honestly feel it'll be an all-new platform with the same V8 engine, which will become redundant when the V6 + hybrid comes out. Enrico Galliera told reporters that all cars will be on a new platform that will be 'successors' (I might be paraphrasing but something close to that). Being a publicly traded company saying that and then 'restyling' a car on a 9 year old platform isn't smart for marketing reasons imho. Just my two cents.

Enrico Galliera has become a very influential voice at Ferrari partly through his strong connection to VIP clients via the customer race programs. In a subtle way he has become the new 'face' of Ferrari and a force pushing the company in the right direction.

Perhaps the 488 replacement will for a third time retain the current roof and window treatment for coupe and spider editions but get new body panels plus front and rear fascias. Then all of that is put onto the new platform now shared with the Portofino series. There would be a substantial cost savings going in that direction and a consistent supply of replacement parts for current and previous models going into the future to. That would fit the 'face lift' description with certain parts and engine plus drivetrain items carried over from the previous 488 series models to.

In my opinion they won't have retained the F142 moniker in the project code if the revamped car will feature a new chassis/platform

What's the source telling the F142 code is retained?
The news about the F142 M3 with KERS predates the Pista (which got no KERS eventually), so it's not conclusive about what will actually happen next.

You should start a thread in the Ferrari 'General Discussion' section and list all the platform numbers from the F430 onward to current models.
There is confusion because engines also get their own 'family' number like F136 etc.

Various people working at/for Ferrari has put information about project F142M-FL on their LinkedIn curricula. To be honest, I've no certain connection that this code belongs to the 488 successor. But for sure it isn't the Pista (project F142M-VS) and according to those curricula it's a project undergoing production very soon.

I've done something similar some time ago on an existing thread, with all the projects codes I'm aware since F101 (and for sure I still miss many of them), but probably without going much deeper with variants and other things (expecially the 308/Mondial family has a very complex "tree" of codes)

I don't know if that makes much sense to me. If you add all new body panels and all new front and rear facias (in other words all new body except the roof) onto an all new platform then its a new car. Makes even less sense for that new car to look similar to the 458/488 all over again. Maybe I'm missing something as this thread tends to ramble.

netting this out for mid-engine, is it:

Car 1 = arriving 2019 = new v8 hybrid mid rear engine with "supercar" performance (presuming v8 turbo with hybrid) aka "big brother"

Car 2 = arriving late 2019 or early 2020 = updated 488 (likely same chasis with v8 turbo) aka "488 Face lift"

Car 3 = arriving 2021 = all new successor to 488 (new chasis, hybrid v6 turbo) aka "new mid rear all new car"

That's what I get from their presentation slides and subsequent noise. I'm not clear on which comes first of cars 1 and 2, but I'm thinking the order is as I listed?

Honestly, Car 2 makes little sense to me. Why not just sell Pista until Car 3 is ready? Yeah, yeah, Pista is "exclusive" (means mo money), but whatever.
