I think the CT was quite different insofar as it was a “fill in” model to keep people ordering an outgoing model prior to a major transition.

The Cali T was a significant upgrade to the Cali 30 IMO. It is the Portofino that is a gradual transition from the Cali T. It's percentage improvements that aren't that noticeable if you owned a Cali T HS. The biggest improvements are the rear styling, the top that can come up when moving and the sound, the rest isn't that noticeable. I bought a 488 Spider instead, that is a step up for sure.

Said it before, and will say it again: from the door handles forward the Cali T is one of the most beautiful Ferrari cars ever. If it had been a proper ragtop with a smaller rear end, it would be a completely uncontroversial design. But that big, bug eyed butt just did the thing in. There was something alien about the last 3rd of that car that just couldn't get past the uncanny valley.

I would say there are styling queues from the California, the Califonia T and Portofino I like and dislike. I know there is a large portion of fans that like the Portofino way more then and California model but I personally find I like the California T of all of the models. There isn’t enough of a change in the Portofino for me to really want to make the plunge. The deprishiation hit doubles that feeling for me. Now the hard top convertible 812 would be worth the cost to jump into new for me, assuming I could get the allotment, and had the disposable income.

Standard equipment in my '18 911 Targa 4 GTS. If I had to guess, I would imagine the manufacturers pay a sliding licensing fee that could be amortized over the amount of units sold. VW/Audi Group = lots of units to amortize over, Ferrari (as opposed to Fiat-Chrysler) not so many. Add that to Ferrari's native larceny and I guess it's what results.

I'm embarrassed to admit I called and added it to my spec. Although I wanted to stand my ground and not order it in protest, I know myself well enough to acknowledge I'll be dissatisfied if I don't have it. I suppose self-actualization is a good thing.
