Oh, I believe you, John. I think this GM Authority report is wrong...."the entire electrical system needs to be redesigned". Loads/draws/etc of electrical components are KNOWN, how could GM get that SO wrong that it needs a complete redesign? I call BS on GM Authority.
Don't be too quick to make a judgement. Today's high-performance cars have gotten so complicated, there's only one opportunity to make a good 1st impression. Blow this launch, and forever regret it.
I get it..."development" is just that and cars ARE complex these days. But, getting the electrical system SO wrong that the entire thing has to be re-engineered. I'm sorry, I just don't buy it. GM Authority has had plenty of foot shooting in the past, and I think this is one of them. Time will tell.
Ill use a personal, and some may think silly, personal comparison. Im a product designer and in a few cases my team and I have spent up to a year developing something only to realize there was a better way we hadnt thought of at the time, so we scrap the entire thing and start over. Its possible that while considering ways to fix whatever the main issue was, GM realized they could vastly improve the entire thing. That doesnt necessarily mean they scraped 'everything' about the electrical system, but enough that it would be called a 'new' system. Just my $.02
Silly GM, have you learned nothing from Ferrari? Don't bother making the electrical system perfect, just tell your customers to get a battery charger and plug their car in every time they let it sit for a week. And by all means make sure that it cannot/should not be jump started without ruining everything. Tsk Tsk...some don't learn. While you are at it, *please* don't forget to make every part cost 3x what it costs other manufacturers (even those with similar volumes) and for the love of god, please ensure that all interior plastic and rubber trim gets sticky and gooey randomly but certainly. Finally, you simply *must* charge 6x the current vette price since this new car will perform like a 488.
If this electrical problem is real (which I guess it is...), when did the "6 month" clock start? When was this problem discovered? The media is saying that the C8 is not being shown at Detroit 2019 because of this, and it's been somewhat common knowledge for months now that Detroit wasn't going to happen. So, are we 2 months in to the "6 month" delay? Or did the 6 month clock start this week?
I am confused about why the car could not be shown. Surely, the exterior is done, and I would assume so are final specs. A intro and display does not need a fully running car.

I talked to a good friend this evening whose son is an engine engineer at GM. I asked if he'd seen the new Vette and what his thoughts were. This may or may not be news, but I found it interesting. He said that his son had not seen the car, but saw its engine options about a year ago. Three options. There will not be a twin turbo, but there will be a maxed-out, supercharged LS. The lowest hp option will be ballpark 500hp and normally aspirated...a hopped-up LT1. My friend, not his son, said that the C8R will be introduced for the 2020 season, not 2019.

Translation (assuming any of this is true): The alternator is under-sized (or under-cooled) for the worst-case electrical load, and a bigger alternator doesn't fit. Extremely embarrassing, for this late in the game.
I'm taking solace that no mules have been spotted for 2 months, so maybe it's only a 4 month delay now.... This is also known as putting lipstick on a pig.
If enough people say it, then it must be true? Or was it ‘if it’s in print/on the internet’ it must be true?
^^^^ Exactly But I DO believe everything I read on the internet.... PS. Except for that "flat earth" stuff...

Let's hope GM uses the unexpected extra time wisely to refine other areas that also might need attention and make this the best new release possible.
IMO, we can close this thread. Nothing is going to happen for 6 months and when it does, we can start one with a title that makes more sense.
