Right...paint it red and pose it next to the Hiro 427 Cobra and you'd have a neat little Gumball Rally display.....

From this distance, that 1914 Mercedes GP winner looks fabulous.

The Merc is a nice kit. A lot of photoetch parts and the amazing hand laced wire wheels. I would have painted the tires white. He does include an engine for separate display only in the kit also.

Well.... this one pains me to say, since I really wanted it to be good, but from photos now shown by MFH of their soon to be released Ferrari Daytona Spyder kit.... it looks like a 'dud', and one that I will not waste my money on. The body is a mess. It didn't look right in the 3/4 views, and then I saw the profile - side view. The nose is all wrong, and rear from doors back to tail is wrong. Tire sidewalls are also too low in profile - too small. I stopped looking after that. I grabbed a few photos of a few of the real cars just for a quick double check. Pics of the cars were taken at almost same view, and even if they had not been, the differences between the car & the kit can be easily seen. Photos below.

It looks like MFH either obtained an 'artists' CAD file or made their own without really looking at what they had; and they may very well have never seen one of the real cars. I am so very disappointed. The work required to correct the body flaws would be major surgery. This is one expensive 'dud' of a kit. This 'thing' kind of makes the old 1:14 Brianza Daytona Spyder look pretty good!

I can understand if it was cheap, but MAN those proportions are so off... upsetting to see such a gorgeous car so off.

Another view from the front. Hiro sometimes really has a problem capturing certain cars. They really screwed up #0684(although Fred Suber built it without changing the body) and have messed up a lot of others. Kind of funny the Hiro cheerleader websites never acknowledge Hiro ever makes a mistake and assume Hiro is perfect.

Over the years I noticed, that most folks on modeler forums are rarely interested in the real things. Sometimes I think they are blinded by crazy detail so that they no more see the whole car appearance.
I stopped participating three years ago, since that got extremely boring for me.
Hiro: there's a lot of stuff, mainly the closed wheelers, which are off. This Daytona is the worst I have seen so far, but even the 250GTO is not what I would expect for those costs. Regarding their yearly output of new releases, they prove that quantity doesn' necessarily mean quality. Same with a lot of die-casts. See the Kyosho 'Fiero'-308s. I can't remember, that anyone was ever interested in what's most important for me regarding a model. The 'face' and proportions.

A sad state of affairs indeed; and no indication of any manufacturer 'sweating the details' anymore in fully assembled model offerings.

I don't think other than the stance and the tires the Daytona is off that much. The real Daytona has an upright stance and thick looking body and the tires which have a tall bulbous sidewall. The MFH tires are completely wrong and the ride height in front is too low., if those two things were corrected(and shouldn't have to be) it would help immensely.

I received the MFH 250LM last Friday. While doing a parts inventory, I discovered they have magnets for the bottom edge of the doors and under the sill plates to keep the doors closed. Is this something new, or have they used them on other kits before?

Also, has anyone used Scale Finishes paints before? I'd like to find out any issues with them before I destroy an expensive kit.

    Thanks for looking,
    Mike

I have not used that paint before but from what I have read it is like Zero paints and Gravity paints wich are great and can be buffed out to look amazing after the 1k clearcoat is applied.
The magnets I think are new, but I did not check all my Hiro kits to confirm.

I have the second Scale Designs 1/43rd Porsche 356 Pre A Pan Americana 1952-1954 sheets back. Just to show how good Cartogaf is at printing I blew the decal up. Keep in mind this sheet is only 2 1/2 inches tall!! Next is the 1/24th version of the same sheet followed by VW's from Pan Am 1954 in 1/24th scale only(for Gunze kit).

Well Hiro is not letting us down after all. Ferrari's one more time around!!!

They will be hard pressed to beat FPPM's 315/335's in 1/24th scale as they could not even get the 1/12th cars right but I am hoping they get the competizione Daytona's right.
