Do the doors open when the battery dies so you can open stuff manually?
Yes, the door can be opened, provided the window is lowered. If you are unfortunate enough to have the battery die with the window all the way up, you are at a risk of breaking the window or damaging the seals. In cases like that, it is best to connect a 12-volt source either to the car’s alternator, or to an externally accessible charging point, assuming you have installed one. The manual releases are a convenience when working on the car, but they become especially handy when the battery switch is turned off and the trunk lid inadvertently latched. The only way to get back in is with the manual release.
Can you open the door when the battery is dead by inserting the key? I thought only the remote would be affected. Don’t want to test it though.
Funny story. My old Porsche Boxster would not release the frunk with a dead battery. But guess where the battery was? There was a manual release but you had to pull the front left tire and inner fender I think to get at it.
Yes, you can. There is a rod connected to the key lock cylinder that actuates the locking mechanism. It's called the safety rod and is at location 10 in the parts diagram. Image Unavailable, Please Login There have been reports of the key not unlocking the door if the alarm had been set when the battery died. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to test this. The best precaution is to have the means to charge battery externally.
Hey Mate, I have 2009 F430 which been parked for about a year, I took it out on Monday and everything was going well until things got a little hot and melted my reverse camera cables which is next to the boot latch cable. The dash light coming up with boot is open which is not, Now i can't select gear. There is secondary boot release next to the fuel cap but even when i pull that it still wont open the boot so I can check the wiring and boot contacts etc. Any idea how else i can pop it open? Thanks Mate
Interesting side note on front hood release, Recently had my bumper off and headlight units removed. There was a SECOND manual cable release for the front hood behind the passenger-side headlight. The cable goes underneath the headlight assembly and ends with a metal loop. Not sure you could even access it by just removing the wheel liner. You'd have to remove the bumper, which of course means the lid would already have to be open, making the extra cable moot. Unless... IF the top was up and cabin locked, AND your keys were trapped in the closed luggage compartment WHILE you happed to have the bumper off. What a great Italian feature!
