Hello 348 fans. Thought you might like this if you own one, or make your move now if you want one.

    https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2018/12/12/dont-miss-the-boat-on-these-6-cars

Average values are $51,000 for a #3-condition car.

‘90s Ferraris in general have a solid long-term outlook for collectibility with raw, high-revving naturally aspirated engines paired with gated manual shifters that became increasingly rare in the 2000s and today are gone. Who could say no to a 300-hp, four-cam V-8 with a dogleg five-speed? After the Mondial and the 1976-89 400/412, the 348 is among the cheapest ways to get into Ferrari ownership. And, they’re currently worth less than 308 and 328, despite being far better performers. Values for these cars have been flat these last two years, and there is some room to grow, although their fate is somewhat linked to how popular the 355 gets in the future. Still, 348s will remain the cheaper of the two. And plus, people who don’t know any better will think you’ve got a Testarossa.

...so the two ferraris I really really like styling wise are the least expensive to get into. I think a 412 to go with the 348 would just be cool.

    Get the shopping cart, ma.

They are beautiful cars I’ve always loved the looks and sound of the 348, have yet to drive one. I’ve been watching the one on BAT it hasn’t moved off of 30k but I’m assuming it will have a big run up at the end appears to be a very nice example. I need to get a bigger garage!

I'm watching that BAT car as well, it is relatively high mileage but is a good example it seams. We bought a 348 a few months ago, 40k on it and in really fine shape. Going to do the engine out on it this winter, plus anything else we find, then love the car for a few years and then sell it.

We've been saying for years - best kept secret among the modern Ferraris. Great cars and under-appreciated. But not in stock configuration. Luckily it doesn't take much to wake the car up and address the factory's missteps.

Just curious, if you don't mind me asking. How much did you pay for it? I have a 46k mile 1990 that needs belt service and I'm curious where the market is. Thanks, Brian

The list is in priority order - in my opinion and based on my experience
    1. Exhaust - replace the 2-can muffler with a single can version of your choosing. I went with gothspeed because I know him, he's close, does great work and built it to my specifications. But take your pick - Tubi, Larini, Fabspeed, Capristo, et al.
    2. Cats - replace the stock ceramic cores with modern 200-cell metallic cores. Again I went with gothspeed but you have other choices, including Fabspeed.
    3. Throttle bodies - have the stock ones bored out. You can go a few millimeters. There are specialists who do this. Tell them they are for a motorcycle and not a Ferrari. ;)
    4. Wheels and tires - replace the stock 17-inch wheels with either 355 or 360 versions of 18 inches and get some grippier rubber.
    5. Add a chin spoiler to the front lower lip - you can still get the Serie Speciale version or choose an alternative.
    6. Replace the ECU chips with better ones - you have some choices here but there are several good versions you can get from 348 people here, like Tim SoCal and Eric348.

Then maybe tweak your springs a little, replace your brake pads with Porterfields, replace the rubber brake hoses with Kevlar/stainless ones. At this point you won't recognize the car from where you started, you will have improved it that much. Going down the rabbit hole a bit more, bore out your intake manifold and get some headers - Fabspeed is the only production set I know of. Don't be surprised if you dyno the car near 355 specs after all of these.

I always hate statements like this. The 348 is a dream machine in its own right - there's no need to try to fool anyone into thinking its something its not.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I've never really liked the look of the Testarossa, too big and 'slabby' for me. The 348 is the Testarossa's beautiful, curvy little sister!

I bought a car that has most of the mod list listed above except for the ecu chip, headers, and porting of the TB's and manifold.
My car has tubi and NO cats. Just test pipes, and honestly when I got it I was shocked at how quick it felt. After reading how slow these cars were etc etc I was impressed when I drove mine.
