Miatas and e36s are the perfect track/race car. Don't even think about a Porsche unless you like throwing dollar bills out the window.

Cost of rotors for a z3? 30$ each... I was flabbergasted...

They are 10x that for a Porsche...

    Wheels? $400...

    Porsche? $3000

Now a Miata or z3 doesn't exactly place the same demands on a cars suspension and brakes as a Porsche...

I dunno about that. Wheel hubs break on an SM. Of course, most donor cars have a lot of miles to begin with.

a friend of mine races miata's, a 300zx, even a 430 challenge car, and he says the most fun he has is the miata's and it costs him virtually nothing.

Many years ago, I asked a guy how he liked his SM. He said he hated it. When I acted puzzled, he said why would you ever race a car you like? You're doing your best to destroy the car. I now understand what he meant. I used to bounce mine off the rev limiter going into turn three at TWS.

On the other hand, when I raced SM 15 years ago, I didn't love the car enough to lavish attention on it (AKA cheat) to make it more competitive. Rode it hard, put away wet.

Having switched to vintage and racing a car I love (69 Alfa Spider), I am always fiddling with it, enjoying it, trying to make it better.

Less brakes more gas! You should be lapping them.
