    Hello people,

This might be a stupid question, but better be safe than sorry.

I am planning on transporting a big chunk of metal (i.e. a gearbox) in my 348 across ~1500 km/~930 miles, with an approximate weight of 85 kg/187 lbs.

So my question is: do you guys know whether it is safe to transport this item in the front trunk without compromising the front structure/frame? I'd hate to arrive to the destination with a bent nose :)

    Thanks for your replies!

While driving the car? A complete luggage set full of clothes as such probably weighs nearly as much. But for the trans, don't forget about effective bracing so that it doesn't roll around. Lots of cushioning material underneath as well.

    However, I wouldn't do it.

Thanks for the reply! My idea was to build a wooden structure around the pallet where the trans is currently sitting. That way, it will be held in place, while providing the necessary cushion. I reckon that should be no problem.

I was mostly concerned about it being too much weight for the front structure... from what I remember (I might be wrong, tho), that structure is all overhang without any support from the chassis. Hence all the worries.

As long as the front end is not already too low, you will be fine.
You can expect that various curbs along the way will be "too high" and you will have to crab over them.

Thanks a lot for the reply! I guess I'd be safe with transporting this thing around, then.
