My God, I can barely watch him, most of what he says is wrong. He doesn’t know what anything is of how it works. Listening to him as he tore into that engine was just painful. Wow.

Brian, what do you have to do to properly restore burned metal like that? Do you just blast it and then paint it with a thick primer?

It all depends on how hot the metal actually got. Paint bubbles and burns at a much lower temperature than steels physical or chemical behavior will be changed. You just have to sand off the paint debris and top layer to see what you have. If it’s bright shiny metal that is still pliable and not brittle than prep and paint is exactly the same as and bare metal panel.
If you see obvious warping, deep discoloring, or brittleness I personally don’t try to work with it. Find the good edge and use patch panels from there. Etc. There are some things you can try to do in metallurgy to revive the metal but nothing I would consider. It is bad just replace it, it’s very easy to tell.
On this spider it was all beautiful and shiny once sanded, I think I have pictures of that somewhere.
Here’s a picture of a couple aluminum Gallardo fenders I just pulled off a car to clean up. You can see the vinyl wrap and paint look horrible but right underneath that is perfect aluminum. Clean it off and it’s just like a fresh panel out of the box.

Nice wheels in the background. Look like OZ Pegasus - were they off a Diablo??

Yes, good eye. I have 2 full sets of Lamborghini Diablo SV wheels. They are from the SV Alpine Edition so they have chrome centers instead of painted black or silver.

This thread is back from the dead, just like Freddy's project seems to have found new life.

He's bought a NOS complete roof, and with the old parts he secured for it several years ago, looks like he is going to have an attempt to actually rebuild it somewhat stock-ish.

Am I the only one that’s annoyed these rare parts are used to “fix” his junk?
