the crack is due just to aging. The question is: which car model it belongs to?

I suspect you have a trick up your sleeve but it looks like a standard 328/Mondial t knob.

No, It isn't: they have gear numbers painted in white (at least here in Europe).

    These are painted in red

Testarossa then. I have both and never recall which is which.

I take that back. Just looked in the parts books and it calls for the red in 328 and the white in Testarossa, early V8s and F40

    Sorry Alberto, but I disagree:
OEM 308 and 308 GT4 gear knobs have white numbers (infill).
OEM 328s gear knobs have orange numbers.

As said by Brian, these very often crack with time, even when not overtightened. And care must be taken with the new ones sold as OEM or in aftermarket, as the design of the numbers is not exactly the same as the originals sometimes.

This is correct: OEMs gear knobs on 328s are orange/red.

I apologize with you all: I'm becoming old and I confused 308 with 328!! Just checked: also my two Italian 328 had orange/red gear numbers. In any case this a GTB/GTS turbo gearknob (that is the same as 328), cracked by aging.

Hope you all will forgive me: here you are a picture of the car it belongs to.

Next time you will be here in Modena, I will offer you a drink!

    ciao

And the reason why I posted it is that I was lucky to find an original uncracked gearknob: this pictured was the OEM one. Pictures are from last Friday, with the new gear knob just installed.

    ciao

Was was the gear knob of the 288 GTO ??
    Same as the 328?

No, same as the 308QV; the GTO is contemporay to the QV, that is 1984, not to the 328; the interior of the GTO, the central consol specifically, is somewhat "inspired" by the one of the QV: same sliding levers for the A/C and heating, etc... not the rotating knobs and illumating leds of the 328.
As in any 308QV, the gear knob of the 288 GTO has white lettering/ infill.

Correct, but dashboard dials, lettering, colour etc more similar to the 328 than the 308 though.
