A little lost on this comment. Isn’t the number of textures dependent on spec? Our Pista will have alcantara, matte CF, and diamondplate floors. I’m trying to think of a sports car interior with significantly fewer textures? I personally love the classic (maybe another man’s “dated”) look of the modern Ferrari interiors. Lamborghinis, McLarens, etc, seem so Transformer-ish to me. I also prefer the ease of ingress/egress of the aluminum-bodied Ferraris to full carbon tubs - probably because I use these cars regularly. I wonder if CH reads this stuff on FChat and just laughs. He probably never thought his words would get parsed like the Fed's does with every single statement. Watching you guys do this is like watching a preacher dissect a phrase in a bible passage. Guys...buy a car if you want it, if you don't then don't...and if you can't afford it then just stay out of the conversation and go buy what you can afford and want.
What an insecure bunch. Reviewer claims interior is not to his liking and a debate over it ensues. Brake feel is numb in his opinion and fear is generated it may be true Car is too much for the road and anxiety is created over it being simply too fast and capable. Next , I am going to complain I am too handsome and have too much money.
Just in case I created some confusion, I was merely summing up its complaints about the interiors. Personally, I like their approach so far (Maserati's too) and, hopefully whatever comes next (cluster, steering wheel etc.) will have the same elegant look, just a bit more "fresh".
I did not want to mention that since I have discovered it is not always a positive. Some find it intimidating.
Wait! I thought I am too handsome but proportionally rich enough!! Lol. Still don't know who is being sour about pista. Too lazy to read the whole thread. Yes!! Give me a pista. I want it too!
Any reviews of cars I own or have on order that are not wildly and unequivical raves, will be disregarded and treated as written by incompetents or those with nefarious motives. Alternatively, rave reviews will be deemed completely accurate and informative.
Apart from the new V12s nobody buys a Ferrari for its interior, been quirky and way off the pace for as long as I can recall. No reason it can’t be like a Zonda would cost peanuts in whole scheme of things. It’s just not been there thing, like the audio and Nav systems.
Who cares! As long as you like it! Regardless, he has a point on the cabin materials. That's why I changed all the fabrics (apart from the leather on the contrast stripe and steering wheel) to alcantara. Combined with the matte carbon, I hope it looks good. But I'm sure that many would call it boring. As above: I don't care what others think about it, it's my car after all! ;-)
I respectfully disagree. He seems considerably more excited while driving a 991.2 GT3: Note, he mentions the SOUND of the engine, the EXCITEMENT created by the 9000 rpm redline, and he LAUGHS OUT LOUD in typical CH fashion that Porsche has been able to resist going turbocharged. Each of these elements/topics was absent during his review of the Pista.
Not sure I follow this argument that CH was downbeat about the Pista. He started by questioning the genre - a 720hp track tool that most owners won’t take to the track. He admitted that he wanted to dislike the car but ended up saying..... ...This thing is alive, up on its toes, responsive and brutally fast... ...this feels TWICE as fast as the GT3 racer... ...feels more normally aspirated... ...this is the turbocharged engine I wish the 488 always had - it doesn’t feel turbocharged... ...predictable, balanced, the steering is just the right speed... ...so much torque, even on half throttle the car is moving around everywhere... ...brake pedal feels like a race car pedal, it’s got that solidity to it... ...love the way the engine revs out, the inconel exhaust gives great sound... ...go out and drive it dude [don’t collect it]... ...I want to dislike it but I can’t it is VERY VERY good... ...front of the car is SUPERB...amazing...big advantage over the GT2RS... ...this thing is a sniff, A SNIFF, away from the pace of a LaFerrari... ...dances like an e-type, I love it... ...that phrase “last of n/a” is that relevant anymore?.. ...this engine is so fine I’m not sure a Speciale is going to be worth what we thought... Sounded pretty enthusiastic to me. Any difference in tone is more about the question “do we need cars this powerful, expensive and quick?” As for me, no review would change my mind about the Pista. This one doesn’t even try to.
Watching it again, my take away was that it's an excellent car and an incredible performer, but it's not really utilized (can't be utilized) on normal roads, especially by the average owner. The market demands higher and higher performance from each new car, so they have to make the next car faster than the last in order to sell it, and now they're just too fast. This is a problem only for enthusiasts though, not for the majority of buyers who just want to have the objectively newest/best car. To make it exciting on normal roads, you have to make it "bad". In other words, you make it like some old Jag in the wet, not because that's a sign of good performance, but because you have to force the issue and make it exciting by making it lose traction etc. He definitely did not dislike the car. He liked it. Who wouldn't? Who can honestly say any modern exotic is not a "good" car? He wasn't helplessly in love with it though and likely couldn't call it a "keeper". Just my opinion though. I doubt anyone will get the car and truly dislike it.
I’m a big fan of CH, but I respect Valentino Rossi more than most journo hacks. Here’s Vale’s take of the Pista engine after driving it on track. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Lots of butthurt in this thread. The ironic thing is that Chris’s review was overall highly positive. But apparently since he dared to say the car had some faults and wasn’t perfect, he’s now some sellout? Especially when most of the people in this thread probably never even drove one yet.
More positive commentary on the Pista engine. I am an unabashed Ferrari na V12 engine fan but think this turbocharged engine is a marvel, as well. Can’t wait to take delivery of our Pista in a few months. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Current episode of Top Gear, Chris Harris reviews the 720S with Performance pack. Says it is silly but gushes over the 720s- " most complete super car on sale, possibly ever built".
Every time when I take my 720s out, I don’t feel like I want anything more as a supercar. It’s easy to use, it’s practical, it’s extremely capable. However, I do wish the car is more playful like Ferrari’s but McLaren has not figure that out yet. A few problem my 720s has, the power steering pump always making a stupid noise, doors don’t aligned perfectly.
My buddy just took delivery of a 720S. Gorgeous car. In a recent video review, Chris Harris talked about his passion for the 720S but briefly admonished McLaren to improve build quality. He didn’t go into details so I was wondering about the areas of concern. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes the reliability and build quality are big concerns on McLaren’s that’s why they hold very low value on wholesale value. First month of my 720s I had to send the car to do the doors adjustment and wing noise check for a couple of times. The result wasn’t perfect but I can live with. The alcantara interior on mclaren’s are pretty bad actually. I dislike it very much but I do like their upgraded leather interior which is the one that I have, almost Bentley level of leather finish. Wish they have more color choice tho. McLaren has done a great job on pushing the supercar world forward like what R35 GTR did to Porsche and high performance car manufacturers 10 years ago.
This guy might help you understand. He is not alone and Mac have a growing problem in this area. An exotic body shop owner I know well always tells me I bought the right brand (Ferrari) and in particular talks about horror stories underneath McLaren bodywork - the build is often patched together. No doubt if you have a reliable McLaren (like mine was) you will write these experiences off as one-offs. I think there are too many now though and no doubt CH has heard plenty which is why he mentioned it.
