40 to 80K prices were LAST years low prices. These cars were a relative bargain, Ferrari prices for almost all the older cars went up. I'd bet you can find a nice 1990 car for 100k to 125K today. Certainly there's a huge spread right now in prices, but I'd bet 200K 1990 Testarossas would be a tough sale unless they were fully serviced, low miles, perfect cars. I have two TRs so I kind of watch them. But I'm not a dealer, and I could be totally out to lunch.

You might check out the Testarossa section of Ferrari chat. Values are discussed adnauseam. I think the auctioneers statement that they aren't in high demand is
false. For 40k to 80K I'd say RIGHT NOW there would be a HUGE demand. At 150K to 200K the demand would be MUCH lower, but still there.

crazy that those prices are pretty much obsolete today

on a relative basis there are tons of great values - TR, 355, 456, 360, 430, 599 etc - theyre just going to cost you more than q4 2014.

LOL...I wouldn't mind too much. I don't keep them long enough to make too much fuss, and after life with brand new maseratis and all the deficiencies therein, the embarrassment of an automatic on a 20 year old car just doesn't seem a big deal. I've actually been looking at them lately myself.

Still say 612 is the best value, hands down. Much newer and more timeless design than the 456, and significantly more performance for marginally more.

It depends on the reason for the purchase. I don't believe its good value to buy any make or model on just the badge alone. Buy the one that you like, etc. Maybe compromise for another less expensive model or the earlier version, etc. But don't buy just because its a Ferrari, etc. The best value is the one you want to have. I'll use Porsche as an example. I've had a few 944's, I like them, wanted one when I was a kid. My older brother almost got a 944 turbo as a first car back in 87. Had the car in our garage waiting for him to get his license. I used to look at it and sit in it, dreaming for when I got my license. Anyway brother did something very bad and was grounded, car went back to the dealer. So I have bought 944's, both S and turbo versions including almost a cup car version out of nostalgia and I like how they drive. But I wouldn't buy a 924 just to have a Porsche.

Totally agree. That's a lot of car for the money with very good reliability and decent maintenance costs.

My TR was 65 but only because it is twin-turbo charged. You find a stock, decent TR for 40-80 buy it!

Thing to keep in mind TV shows can be rerun over and over again. It could be a show from even as far back as 2011 say. Things can change and change fairly fast. You can still find a decent driver with 50k miles or more for around $90k. Might need a service. Lower the miles, nicer the car and updated service the price climbs.

Beater, project TR's are in the 70-80 range with high miles etc. A well sorted TR with low miles (25,000 or less) can be had for around $125K. I agree the Californias are good buy at the moment. 599's seemed to have stabilized as well, but I am not familiar with their MX schedules.

An "F1" gearbox isn't really an "automatic".

Although the Getrag on a California is likely much superior to the original "F1" box.

The only caveat on a paddle shifter is if you do a lot of low speed tight maneuvers in parking garages.
That's where a manual clutch shines over the computer operated ones.

Once you get moving, the paddles have it all day.
(Of course, you don't get to blip the throttle between gears to show off. ;))

I'm pretty sure the 456's are actual slush-box automatics...not sequentials.

    458 @ 150k
    FF/612@ 120k
    430 @ 100k

Prob just easier to say it this way - every ferrari under 150k qualifies.

I think the recent dip in F12 prices make that car a total no brainer. And the crazy part is, they still have not reached the bottom. Incredible car, at an even more incredible bargain.

It seems to me that good specs with sub-3000 miles can be had for sub-$240. That’s amazing.
