No, No, No. This is a properly engineered and designed car. Just over 1000 kg, mid engined and correct wheel drive. The only compromise is there is no manual for now, for design budgetary reasons, and the fact that many misguided youth can't or won't drive a manual.

It is turbocharged, and that is also a bugbear of mine, but it had to make use of a Renault drivetrain, and anyway, many of the best things are flawed. Some of my favourite engines have been turbocharged even though I'm generally not in favour of it. For reasons of economy of manufacture and design, and perceived environmental friendliness hardly anything comes without a turbo; the only proper normally aspirated BMW straight six is the 1.6 litre motorbike engine.

The Alpine is one of the best new complete designs of the past few decades.

In that case, I'm delighted to be wrong. :)

    All the best,

While checking the weather a few minutes ago, this ad popped up at the top of the screen. That rear has to be the busiest array on lines ever produced- I count at least 2 dozen! Looks like they put the rear door handle up near the roof because there was too much competition to put it where it belongs. What were they thinking?

They were probably thinking ‘more is more’ instead of ‘less is more’

    "The More Is Not Enough"?

In Bond's next adventure, the sauve British agent infiltrates the lair of an increasingly insane Japanese car designer who won't stop designing the rear end of the next generation family Toyota. Can seduce the implausibly gorgeous, athletic, and difficult-to-shoot receptionist? Can he restrain Japanese car design? Too many lines are at stake to fail.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

DETROIT — Nissan, which helped pioneer the mainstream electric vehicle market with the Leaf, is reimagining the EV.

The IMs, unveiled Monday at the Detroit auto show, looks like a sedan, but offers seating similar to that of a crossover. The all-electric concept car offers a higher ride, stretched interior and pivoting seats.

The IMs is less blueprint for a production vehicle and more a showcase of technologies and concepts Nissan is experimenting with as the automaker plans for a driverless future.

Electrification goals account for the bulk of the new product plans as Nissan responds to an onslaught of electrified entrants. Nissan plans to launch eight new EVs and generate annual sales of 1 million electrified vehicles by 2022.

"Advances in electric vehicle technology and autonomous driving have allowed our designers to break free of the platform and packaging rules that constrain traditional passenger vehicles, to create a completely new type of car," Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president for design at Nissan, said in a statement.

I love the Mustangs. It's amazing that after all these decades they can make the car look more like a Mustang than ever. There's simply no mistaking what it is.

    Sorry, but IMO........swing & a miss.
The all-new, fifth-generation Toyota Supra has today made its official world debut at the Detroit Auto Show.

Badged as the “GR Supra”, with GR standing for “GAZOO Racing”, the Japanese brand’s motorsport arm, the 2020 model is powered by a BMW-developed 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six that is said to produce 335 bhp and 365 lb-ft of torque.

Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission complete with paddle shifters, Toyota claims 0-60 mph takes 4.1 seconds while top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

Toyota is also promising supreme handling, with the car achieving a structural rigidity greater even than the Lexus LFA supercar, a centre of gravity lower than the GT86 coupe and ideal 50:50 front/rear weight distribution.

The exterior design, meanwhile, which was previewed by the dramatic-looking FT-1 concept car that emerged from Toyota’s Calty design centre in California back in 2014, has been labelled by the company as “Condensed Extreme”.

“Optimisation of the FT-1 design onto the efficient, high-performance packaging of Supra was achieved by condensing the forms, reducing unnecessary elements and further enhancing the dynamic and powerful character,” explains the Supra’s chief designer, Nobuo Nakamura.

The production version retains the concept’s double-bubble roof design while the front fascia is said to have been inspired by the fourth-generation Supra, yet “more expressive”, with a prominent central grille section flanked by large air intakes as well as six-lens LED headlamps that integrate both daytime running lamps and turn signal functions.

In the rear, the prominent, arching rear integrated spoiler, which is claimed to help suppress aerodynamic lift, pays homage to the tall rear wing that was available on the fourth-gen Supra Turbo. Addition details include a trapezoidal-shaped bumper and rear combination lights that feature a simple structure with the turn, tail, and stop functions integrated into the main ring shape.

On the inside, the car gets racing-inspired seats and a low, narrow-section dash that forms part of an asymmetrical shape in order “to envelop the driver”.

There’s also a HD colour display that forms the instrument panel, projecting a large, 3D-effect tachometer and shift indicator behind the three-spoke steering wheel. A full-colour head-up display will also be available as an option.

Customer deliveries of the new GR Supra are expected to start from late summer 2019, with the UK line-up coming in two grades, namely, Supra 3.0L and Supra 3.0L Pro.

As the entry point, the former will include an active differential, adaptive variable suspension, and 19-inch forged alloy wheels with a high-performance brake package.

Other Supra 3.0L grade features include dual-zone automatic air conditioning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, smart entry and push-button start. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

The new Supra is ugly in the way only a contemporary Toyota can be. Only a Lexus version could be more hideous.

I like the Supra. Not that its good looking, but that its unique and carries previous Supra DNA without being retro.
