Hey, Y'all - check this out. My 328 GTS ID plate image attached. Note the big "SEPTEMBER 1988" but then the "H" in the VIN below. As near as I can ascertain from a couple of online sources, "H" is 1987. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That VIN plate is a fraud. The month and year are stamped, not printed. You can see the stamping with the printing over it. 67089 was built in September 86. Also on the bottom line with the VIN the 5 and the 67089 should be stamped, not printed. At some time this cars identity has been changed to some degree. To me it brings into question if it really is even 67089.
Image Unavailable, Please Login I should have noted that the sequence/build number is also stamped underneath the printing.
It is obvious something is under there but what? It is also obvious the production date was changed but why? I fail to believe it was a mistake. VIN plates and their information are not modified by mistake. It is a criminal offense to do so.
Never mind, all. I found the resolution, and it should have been obvious. I overwrote the ID with a graphics program to make it clear to myself at some point for getting insurance, etc. Here's how it actually looks, attached. Image Unavailable, Please Login
What VIN is stamped in the other places the # appears on the car? (Something about this plate feels familiar for some reason. Did you recently purchase it on ebay / other place via online ad?)
You did what ? How would you not remember you did that. And why was it overwritten with 88 not 86? Sorry, something smells fishy here !!
The image with the "8" over the "6" is only an image, a doctored/modified image I made for my own purposes, and made that mistake while doing it. That exists only on my hard drive with that image. The actual, real, genuine, in the metal VIN plate on the car is all stamped where it should be, and with the correct numbers. See above. Here's the number on the steering column. Nothing fishy. See below for steering column number. No, I didn't purchase the car recently, but it was on eBay just a day ago.
Ok, but the original question you posted was about the big lettered September 1988, that you doctored that up. Why highlight an aspect of the VIN that you doctored up? I don't understand.
Story, start to finish. The one image I had of my VIN plate I had doctored up in order to be able to read the numbers quickly for purposes of insurance, etc.; personal reason only, it is something I do with all my vehicles - especially old motorcycles where the numbers are often unclear. Now, I posted that wrong, inaccurate doctored image for the car on eBay. A potential buyer wondered why the image read "1988" when it should be 1986. I didn't remember what I'd done (and it looked so good), that lead to my confusion. Please forget I ever said anything about it. Sorry for the disturbance.
He clearly isnt trying to pull something because he posted it here asking us what the hell is wrong. Crooks don't do that.
So help me to understand where you’re coming from. You post a modified photo of your vin plate and not the actual photo of the vin plate and state something is odd .... for ........ what ..... reason?????
That's my point entirely Wayne. I accept he may not be doing anything unsavoury but what was the whole point of the original post. Beats me !!
It's simple. I mistakenly thought the image I had in my computer was the actual plate. However, I had modified that image as I noted above. I put that image on eBay, again, mistakenly. By then I'd forgotten I had modified the image. I couldn't figure out what was going on, so I made a huge and worse mistake and posted it here. I then remembered what I'd done. Believe me, with all the snarky comments, I truly wish I had not asked. I'll know better next time.
Well as you DO see there are a pretty extensive Data bases here, that track the VINs and Production dates......always glad to help...
Don't hate on the forum Troyce. It was you who has stated numerous times that you made one mistake after the next (innocent or otherwise). All we did was pick you up on it. I think we can all move on now.
