    Hello gents,

I took the 488 for service and there was a gearbox software update .. so they updated my car .. and it was undrivable as it is shifting constantly upwards all the time on cruising speeds .. its going on the 7th gear on 37 km/h, 5th gear on 20 km/h .. the car cant reach 2 rpm and the car shifts upwards .. the car is jerking/shaking on low speeds due to the high gear .. i couldn't drive the car on auto and took it back to the dealer twice.

They addressed the problem to ferrari to get the older software version and they refused.

The dealer is still trying hard to get the approval from ferrari to get the older version.

I dont know what to do at this point.

I will post a video of the car shifting tonight.

Until the issue is sorted the best solution is to drive in manual mode. More fun anyway. It's a Ferrari not a Lexus.

Mine is a 2016 and this is always how it’s been. Upshifts way too quickly. I never drive in auto. Only manual.

Well, that's pretty standard since at least 2016. The early upshift strategy is for meeting European noise regulations in automatic mode. If they'd change it, the cars would have to sacrifice in noise level and sound. There are also several different gear boxes available for the 488, depending on the production year.

It's better to think of the 458 or 488 as a manual transmission only car. I tried the auto mode once in each of those cars, just to see what it was like, and it was comically bad. Like you say, it will shift to 7th gear by 35 MPH - or something silly - if it can. Just get into the habit of starting the car and pushing auto exit and drive it like a manual. Aside from a 30 second test, I never used auto at all in either the 458 or 488.

If you need an automatic transmission, get a nice SUV :)

Agree Ray. That has been my experience. Auto mode is just terrible to use. Not fun at all.

Auto mode is good to cruise waiting for temps to come up

sometimes the gearbox has to re-learn itself after a flash, hence the weird behavior

Has anyone had any trouble with their gearbox. Mine would not select odd number gears only even. Diagnosis is a new gearbox kit

when in doubt, always try disconnecting the battery to clear all the ECU's

The DCT works by pre-selecting this gear vs. that gear, so if all the odd number gears have gone out, half of something is not working - that could be electronics or hydraulics. Maybe something is just stuck too. Has the car been sitting for a while? What's the temp outside?

Gone past stage of Troubleshooting. Diagnosed mechanical failure that needs new gearbox kit. Car is driven monthly and outside temp around 20 degrees. Was putting it out there to see if its a common problem or once off mechanical failure

The dealers aren't really able to repair or diagnose them too much from what I understand. It's very possible a relatively inexpensive item has failed in the gearbox, but about all the dealer can do is swap in a completely new unit. It's sort of the same deal as with the Tesla main display unit, for example: a $25 storage item fails inside, but your only option is to replace the entire $4000 computer display, because Tesla dealers can't repair the display and/or refuse to sell the individual parts to customers.

Be glad it's still under warranty :)
