Michaël, I don't have quite the same version: after he had tested 008 at Vermicino, Ferrari said to Vallone that the coming 166MM was to be even better. Vallone ordered for a MM but required a spider corsa bodywork in order to compete in both formula and sports races. The present owner who talked to Roberto Vallone when he bought the car could confirm that he was not too happy when he realised that he had been sold the car he had raced at Vermicino, not only the bodywork.
    Cheers

After careful re-reading of Cavallino 133 and thread http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161435&highlight=0012 I don't believe the renumbering either.

But in that case the early history of 0012 M is still a mystery.

I don't said that I don't believe the renumbering, but up to now any prove failed to reach me. Therefore I stay cautious.

If Vallone required a MM with Spyder Corsa bodywork, well, that's what he got - 008I. Technically the SWB Spyder Corsas had been identical with the MM, same engine, and same chassis (which was very different from that of the LWB SXC's).
An important point for sure is that 0012M was equipped with engine 0010M.

However, for continuing thes discussion on 008I/0012M I recommend to use the original thread:

I have got finally the Bari GP entry list: after reviewing the list of the Ferraris 2000cc entered , only Cherubini and Pinzero could be the driver of th e001S at Bari 1952. Any idea?

    Although I put this in "Old Photos" I've added it here because of the notes written on the back. In pencil they read;
    Cortese
    La Motta (59-52)
    Casales
    Tramontana 54
    Ciancico (CT)

Not sure if they help or hinder?

The original negatives of the 001S are in the Moncalvo's archives of Turin. Moncalvo photographed the car near the Allemano's workshop. Two of those pics appeared on the Anselmi/Massini book. Digitalized files and certified repro prints are available on request. Ask for details in PM, please. I'm the tutor of the archives.

Maybe it's time to revive this thread: I found this pic in the "1935-1985 Automobile Club Agrigento Cinquantennale" book of what I believe of 001S winner of the 1948 Giro di Sicilia with Troubetzskoy/Biondetti at the wheel...

I noticed holes above grille of this "short 001S" (or whatever s/n). Holes are drilled in about same position as those extra headlights used by the "long version" 001S, entry #427 at 1950 Giro Sicilia/Targa Florio. Place for a Ferrari badge as well.

It is from a 2019 auction (see here). The text in the ad says (quote): "FERRARI original B/W photo, Domenico Tramontana in a Ferrari 159C/166S Allemano Spyder, (chassis 001S), Catania-Etna Bergrennen, 13x18, (lower edge with sticky tape)".

More pictures here: http://forum-auto.caradisiac.com/sport-auto/histoire-du-sport-auto/sujet378358-26530.htm (one from the back with spare wheel and "PA 19181")

This is a photo of the 1952 event of the Catania-Etna hillclimb?

If the information on barchetta.cc is correct and 001 was scrapped in 1951 it was maybe the 1951 Catania-Etna hillclimb.

    That information is not correct.
    001 S lived until at least 17 June 1959.

Marcel, do you know who is responsible for the coachwork shown in post #208? It looks rather crude...
