Yes and the Filipinetti Fiat 128 and Filipinettis last creation the X1/9 were driven only in 1974. After that Valtellina Racing sold the cars. The X1/9 was sold in 1978 to a rich Puertorican. Meanwhile after years of racing and forgetting there in Puerto Rico, the X1/9 is saved in Germany and waits for a restoration.

But what about the Serenissima engines / cars where there were still in Formigine in 1973? And who was/is Ugolini?

Phil Hill about Ugolini: “One of the shrewdest team managers of all time”. Nello Ugolini (1905-2000) managed Scuderia Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Maserati, Scuderia Ugolini, Scuderia Serenissima and – parallel – Scuderia Filipinetti, achieving four F1 and two sports Championship titles. Finally he was responsible for Serenissima's famous 'magazzino' in via Ghiselli.

Precious car. Let's hope that the future owner will preserve it with the patina and not over restore it. But I fear the worst.

Late 2018 the original rear and front of the special looking Agena got redesigned to make it up for the auction. The huge integrated rear spoiler got eliminated and the front smoothed and changed. Today, the car’s shape is no product of 1967/8 but of late 2018 with new lines and fresh paint at rear and front.

The other cars got prepared as well. The ‘magazzino’ stored over decades a huge pile of unidentified parts which were used late 2018 to complete the lots for the auction. The Torpedo had during 50 years and until late 2018 no engine and gearbox and nobody knows what engine and gearbox got put in the car.

Untouched originals stored over 50 years …

The first spider was either converted to the second or scrapped.

The Spider Avional is still in Italy. Disassembly and restoration started 2018 and the car might appear soon on the open market.

Three Serenissimas are going up for auction Feb. 8th at the Artcurial Auction at Retromobile in Paris. The red coupe with the V8 by Serenissima will be one of them. I think they are just calling it the Serenissima Ghia GT instead of the Agena. They are calling it a 1968 so my question is--once Guigiaro designed the Mangusta and left to found Ital Design, did DeTomaso already commission a variation hoping Count Volpi would take it on as a production car? Why couldn't the Count take it with the Giugiaro body style (more beautiful you have to admit...)When Kjell Qvale signed up to import the Mangusta to the US (after Ford passed on it) was he shown this alternative design to choose from? The auction company is offering the car as found in Volpi's storage, as a non runner, so you can bet it's going to take a heap of work to get an engine running that has no parts available. There is a story on the spyder Serenissima LeMans car here--you can bet ol' Enzo hit the roof when he saw how close the body style was to a 250P...and it did run with the big boys for over 30 laps at LeMans in '66....

Redesigning the white car is rather odd because here the Count pays no attention to the cars for some 40-50 years and then suddenly
wants to redesign one? He should have left it the way it was because then it's still historically "in period" in looks. Maybe he was busy with other things, but I find it amazing that he's 80 and still wants to show the world what he can do with car designs. I hope he does another couple follow up interviews, he's got nothing to lose calling a spade a spade and knows where all the bodies are buried.

"Da ricordare che il primo punto Mondiale F1 lo prende Bruce McLaren nel 1966 col motore Serenissima."

Sì, giusto, ma non con questo motore M67 di Lambertini, ma con il motore M63 di Alberto Massimino (#101F1)

Translation: "It should be remembered that Bruce McLaren took the first F1 World Championship point in 1966 with the Serenissima engine."
Yes, right, but not with this M67 engine by Lambertini, but with the M63 engine by Alberto Massimino (#101F1)

Interesting to see this car in detail. Even more interesting to see that the berlinetta bodywork survived.
