Fast N' Loud F40 being auctioned again?

If someone can easily afford that car they should be able to afford a nice one. Even more so when they'd need to create/fund a surety bond to cover insurance and spend who knows how much bringing the storied car up to snuff.

 

Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder...... everyone has different tastes. $700k is not chump change for most..... in that realm.... ya you can buy a stock looking f40, but maybe someone prefers this one.

 

Definitely true, but if someone likes the blacked out look they could buy a nice no stories car and wrap it. I don't look at an F40 as an aspirational segment car where someone should have to stretch or buy a marginal car to get one, and I haven't found the people able to spend $700k aren't able to spend $1.3M just as easily. But of beer is involved then let the d**k measuring contest begin with the bidders!

I can confirm what Jam1 said, I too saw it in person at Barrett Jackson years ago, everything he said is pretty spot on on the fit and finish of the car.

Oh so this is the Houston car. I never saw it, but knew all about it. From what I recall the hit wasn't that hard. The car jumped a curb at maybe 40 to 50 or so. So, yeah, it's a salvage car and never will be worth anything near a real car. That is, you better buy cheap because you'll end up selling cheap when you sell. But if you want a fun car, just go into with eyes open. I'd also be prepared to redo all the work that has been done. I wouldn't trust anything done by a reality TV show.

 

I think you are reading too much into what I said. To some, $700k is not much, if they want it as a toy they are not too worried about, throw liability on it and you’re good.

Many folks that have Ferraris are paranoid about putting on some miles or getting a door dent. This might be a perfect car for someone who wants to drive/track an F40 and not be worried about it.... maybe they already have a collector version.

So how do you insure it? Dunno, never looked into it, but for some it wouldn’t be an issue anyway...... now if you posted up your question..... I need to be able to insure it, how do I do it? That would be different...... that was not what my comment was about.

 

Those questions are for us mere mortals. A person who can spend 700k or what ever on a car, insurance issues are not an issue. Many of these big collectors have fleet insurance. One lump sump for the entire thing. Throw the gas monkey car in there, maybe add an extra 100 bucks a month..sock money.

 

The insurance issue is, what happens if someone hits you? When they discover the history of the car will they sue and make a claim the car was dangerous to be on the road? What about the police investigation? What obligations do you have to disclose to the insurance co and what does that do to exonerate you? Who's the at fault driver if it's determined the fix on the salvage car was substandard and you're driving it on the public roads anyhow? Worse yet... what if you crash into another car or kill someone? Forget fleet insurance, liability, and collision. You're going to be sued into oblivion and the car will be the least of your concerns. And all of that risk for the bargain of buying a checkered car for a 30-40% discount?

I agree. Tastefulness of the mods aside, which are a personal thing, and ignoring the obviously hammed up 'drama' for the cameras, which doesn't matter, there were a couple of parts of the build, that they amazingly broadcast, that made me wince.

 

The car went through a state inspection declaring it highway worthy, actually any car with an off road or salvage title has to go through this process to be legal and back on the road.

Well, I do have ownership in a reinsurance co, but that's a separate thing. I'm not a fool that overpays for insurance, but I do like to eliminate the liability I can easily address by not making stupid decisions or purchases. Everyone has different risk tolerances though... so good luck in the bidding!

And that releases the owner from liability, does it? ​

 

Some people in the comments should research that this is a wrecked Ferrari rebuilt by a hot rod shop with no Ferrari experience. Quoting $1.4 million figures is crazy....

 

For Gas Monkey - that F40 is a fantastic marketing tool.... for sure, they want it back.

It's the hot potato of the Ferrari world, that poor F40 is a mess. I've seen this car up close when it was here in DFW before GM sold it at Barrett Jackson & it still had a lot gaps, parts missing, & thing installed on it that made no sense. Bob Norwood in Rockwall worked on part of it trying to straighten the frame out the best they could, if I remember correctly the motor mount had to be relocated due to compromised frame.

If it was up to me & had the funds, I'd have the car shipped back to Italy & completely restored back to its former glory, but I'm not even sure if it qualifies for Ferrari Classiche anymore.

 

I cringed very often when watching the Gas Monkey episodes of this F40 rebuild...wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. They may be muscle car specialists, but watching the shows reminded me of what a bunch of 7th graders look like after their science teacher gives them their science projects that are due in 1 week. Duh...what do we do now?!?!

And it seems to me a lot of folks here who are arguing for this car probably would not buy this car with their own money (assuming we all can afford it). I wouldn't even consider what we call "normal" cars (911, vettes, MB's, Maseratis) with salvage title and frame damage in the $50k-90k range. Let alone 1/2 million. There is no way in hell I would feel safe in the GMG F40. Just my opinion...

 

It remains an F40 and remember those cars weren't perfect when they left Maranello 30 years ago.
The factory finish on these cars was terrible, but that has its charm too. It's a race car for the street.
Many F40's have crash damage and were put out on the streets again. I think Gas Monkey did a nice job.

 

The good thing about this car is it has already been crashed. Buy it and make it perform on the street and track as it was originally intended to. If it crashes again, fix it. I got my car 14 years ago and have put thousands of miles on it. I originally intended to drive it to the track, have fun and then go home. The track never happened because life happened. Work took off in a good way and in the meantime, the value of my car skyrocketed. At its current value, I don't want my car to get whacked so I'll look for something else to eventually thrash on the track. That's just me.

The GMG car would be a good candidate for my purposes but it looks like the price will go way up tomorrow morning. At a minimum, I'll come away with having been entertained.

 

According to the news article the F40 can’t be registered in Ca due to smog issues.

We’re all F40s 50 state cars? We’re there some Ca only cars or is this just one more unique thing about this car?
