I have a 95 355 that got a major service done and the suspension warning is staying on even after a few drives. It should have gone off by now. I have checked...

Speed sensor. The speedometer is working so there is a speed signal
The two rear shock control modules are plugged in, no bent pins
The connectors below the engine ECUs are all plugged in, no bent pins, both sides
Even the front Shock control modules are all good, no broken teeth.

I am stumped and can use a pointer. No SD1 to tell me exactly what the problem is.

Was the front bumper or front luggage compartment disturbed? There is a brake fluid pressure sensor in the front luggage compartment, and, of course, the accelerometers in the bumper.

You'd probably get CELs for this, too (as the speedo feeds into the ECUs).

Do you have someone to check that the actuators turn when you turn on the ignition?

Front bumper was not removed. But front liner was removed for AC service. Brake fluid pressure sensor, hmm? Would that not throw a Brake warning light?

You likely need an SD to reset / clear the faults. Brian S sent me one to clear as his Leo could not do it. I documented it in my SD2 thread.

Ship the ECU to me Mitch, I'll install in my car and clear the fault just as I did for Brian. :) I take payment in beer - oh wait - I'm on a no-carb diet so forget that :)

Crazy question but was the car in a cool garage for an extended period of time? When my car is left untouched for over a month or more in my cold garage during the winter the suspension light will come on. I suspect because the plastic gears inside get cold and dont move properly. If I let the vehicle warm up, turn it off and start up the car the suspension lights go off.

I believe it's unique to the suspension system. Component "07031" on the suspension wiring diagram. I couldn't find this number on the Teves diagram.

OK, I will try to ship the Suspension ECU to Dave... That is the one in the foot well at the passenger side, right?

Mitchell before you go do that make sure you check each each top of the shock and turn by hand both direction stop to stop.
Also have someone turn on ignition and make sure each motor turns.
I would then make sure you did not pinch a wire on any of the back shocks.
If all thats good Im out.

I was joking about the beer :)

So, yes but as Grant stated, you need to be sure you don't have a real issue because it will just fault again the second you reinstall. I can also read the codes. The issue could be a bad acceleration sensor. I solved this on my friends 575.

Next week I go to Cavallino so I can't do anything until I get back.

I had something similar last month. The wiring broke internally going to the actuator, I would shake the harness and it would come on and off.

Acceleration sensor faults are common on 360 and up. Different suspension system. I have never seen an acceleration sensor problem on a Bilstien car. 99% of the time it is a shock, an actuator or a speed signal. Just because the speedo works does not mean the system is getting a speed signal.

The cars are old and the harnesses are getting fragile. Even if very careful they can be damaged easily. The harness design on post 95 cars was very poor. Having to drag the thing through too small a space was dumb x 100. Should have had a bulkhead connector. Last one I did fractured a wire to a crank sensor. The wire Delphi used was not a high grade. The pre Delphi harnesses from 10 years earlier are in better condition.

Dave. I'll send you the ECU so you can read the code. That will tell me a lot....

OK. Again, I can't get to it until 2/2 the earliest.

I have not near the experience as Brian but I have done 3 majors on my car and 2 times when the service was done I had issues with fuel pump not working, and the other was a coil I believe. Both times it traced back to the main ecu plug.
Note to readers if after major a component does not work check the main harness. Its starting to,look like this is a good guess many times.

Well, at least the left front actuator is ok :D

Do we know what they mean by "locked" and "not in position"? Are any of these messages generated because you're testing the ECU out of the car or because Mitchell powered up the ECU with the actuators not plugged in?

There seems to be no common wiring between the front and rear actuators (except the plug on the ECU).

Ian, these are stored faults. To read them, I installed the ECU in my car.

With that many codes, I am leaning to bad connections at a connector somewhere. It is not possible for all those components to go bad at the same time, zero chance.

Ian, what connector inside the engine compartment feeds the Suspension ECU signals?

Not in position means not connected to the shock. Locked means the system has set as best as possible a known default position and will leave it there.

Looks like the key was turned on when the engine was out of most was disconnected.

I am pretty sure the battery was disconnected until everything is plugged back in. However, shouldn't these error codes clear themselves after the correct conditions are established, without the use of a SD2 computer?

Nope. The only one that turns itself out is the speed sensor error.
