That's consistent with what has been repeated here:
    - 488 "replacement", to be introduced at Geneva, is the F142-FL - i.e. a third iteration of the 458 platform, with an evolution of the engine of the 488, therefore certainly V8TT; of course, as mentioned above, it will not be presented as a facelift, but as a replacement - just like the 355 was not presented as a 348 facelift, the F430 was not presented as a facelift of the 360, the 488 was not presented as a facelift of the 458...
    - a few months later, the so-called BB, an upper class supercar on the new platform, with the hybrid V8;
    - in a year or little more, the new generation of the entry level car (in the line of the 308, 328, 348, 355, 360, 430, 458, 488... and the interim replacement to be introduced at Geneva) will be a V6, according to reasonable (or informed) guesses.

but it isn't....technically! commercially of course they have to present as new car but let me say it is a new car, inside and outside as I mentioned probably 60 pages before
starting from project code you understand that is not a new project/car. If I am not wrong I was the first one to state that the 488 successor will be a facelift and not a replacement. you just need to be familiar with F project codification system. F142M-FL stands for FaceLift and M for Modificata since is coming from 458.

At the end the new car will be amazing depending on our taste. I have great expectations from rear part less from front. Starting from October test drive will be available on track, ask to your dealer. May be they don't know exactly the tech specs but they should already know when test drive will be available. Before, I guess starting from April at least in EU, you can admire the new car at the dealer (but not drive) if you don't have the chance to go to Geneva.

btw there will be only one new F......the new successor of 488
    Monza will not be displayed

There is a difference between not revealing their future plans and lying through their teeth for an existing model. If the chassis has been reworked, it can be classified as an all new car. We will know for sure when they launch the car. All else is conjecture.

it doesn't mean that nobody knows!
for example suppliers are receiving technical data, info, drawings, specifications etc months before a new car has been lunched on the market.....since they are developing in co-design some part of the car with F
this is valid for any car makers

in Italy we used to say "if you want to know something ask to the suppliers" including who will be the new boss!! :)

    cheers

My thoughts align with GPepper but very new to this stuff. Wouldn't Ferrari be "breaking ranks" if the 488 FL is announced in Geneva vs. "an all new" model as it seems like the mid engine V8 series seemed to have two models sharing a chassis before an entirely new car ala 355 -> 360 or F430-> 458?

Replacement or Facelift are easy to tell, just check their interiors then you will know the
    difference between them:D

I seems they might be following the V12 Testarossa/F512/512M example. IF again they only make c500 units of the FL (M) it would be very attractive to a lot of folks.

The entry level car is and remains the Portofino.
I believe the 488 FL might have two successors:
    SB and BB.
With V6 respectively V8 hybrid drivetrains.

A year ago I post both internal codes, 488 facelift and big brother. Even when for most part of the factory these projects were unknown at that time.
And now F142MFL will be soon revealed...time flies as fast as F173 will be.

Im ready to discuss next 3 future projects excluiding these two.

Dear ferr9000 , thanks a lot for all your reliable informations ,
Just one question : why so few BB spy shots since October ?
Maybe they are testing only during the night ( joke ) ?

I would think the new platform is ready. Just the market isn't ready yet to accept smaller (V6) engines in a mid-engine Ferrari.

Despite all of that pre-premiere forum hyperactivity about 488 FL and BB, it looks like we need to wait for official reveal to find out anything useful about the two upcoming models. ;) Bravo Ferrari!

Indeed, the 488-FL (to be named completely differently) is the entry-level "sports" car while the Portofino is the entry level "GT" car, according to Ferrari range categories (currently, 488 and 812 in "sports", GTC4 and Portofino in "GT").
The 488-FL successor will most probably be the V6 (aka SB) while the BB (to be unveiled before the FL discontinuation) will fill a new segment in the Sports range.

    Thank you for the information.
There are only a few Fchatters who provide info I believe and you are right up there.
Which threads should we look in for the next 3 ?
