More power, more heat.

 

6% more power between Euro carb and QV make such a difference? We have fairly hot summers here in S/W-Germany and the highest gauge reading ever I got after a several minutes speed limit free full throttle drive -speedo showed 155mls./hr.- hitting a quarter of an hour traffic jam at 93°F was around 200°F. With A/C on.
I sometimes compare my gauge readings with an IR-temp-gun on the coolant header near the sensor and it's quite accurate.

Your summers are not as hot as where I am from.

You are speaking of peak power, that which is almost never used during normal driving. The QV had a lot more area under the curve.

OK, you're right. They have no reputation for running hot and Ferrari wasted all that money redesigning the 328 to put in a bigger radiator or even the QV to move more air through the radiator.

Do you really feel the need to argue that which is so well known? Is arguing that important to you?

If so, leave me out. It is not something I like to do.

 

Black underside on cars that have not this original, always let the bells ring to me....you have to check if it whas'nt done to hide rust on the lower door panels.

But without kidding. I can imagine the need for a bigger radiator for the 328 with its significantly more power and displacement. But still have a problem to understand carb vs. QV regarding cooling capacity.

Don't worry about that hood, etc.

They are Ferrari parts used 3 years later on that same model.

I think it looks cool. Besides, very very few would spot that Nardi wheel, or vertical clock and oil temp (only on an 80) and know something was a bit off.

And so what if they did?

 

Not sure if, even though the belt has low miles on it, that it still shouldn't be changed due to age. But I'm sure more experienced 3X8 owners can offer their 2 cents. Good luck with it.

 

Looks like it’s worth having a PPI. Its a silver boxer paint B with red leather... I like.

Pinstripe would have to go though

I think Napolis CUT his hood to make the venting, legend goes...from overheating in NYC traffic.

Pinstripes are a Dealer option and NOT as uncommon in the 70s/80s as now.
Seen several cars with them, always hand done, ala West Coast style.

This is a great condition, slightly modified car.

As far as Boxer Trim goes, it was common in the early years a certainly "possible" all the way to the Boxers demise in 1984.

Crack in factory filler at A pillar. normal.
Points off for whoever rattle canned the windshield and door mullions, should be anodized black....

My Silver '77 GTB also has red pinstripes, just like this one. I was told that mine's original owner lived in New Orleans, and that it spent some of its life in
North Carolina. Coincidence?

 

That is an interesting detail!

The one I saw pinstriped was here in Houston.
It was red, IIRC.....and about the same vintage as my yellow '77.

They were both in Vintage Motorcars at the time, his project was moved there after John V.s demise.

To the OP:
Two things that would be nice, once you sort the injection to it's proper performance:

16" wheels are nicer to buy tires for than the "briefly popular" 390mm ones this cars wears.
Speedo "orange zone" was a two year thing, and a full face can be retrofit at a competent Speedo Service familiar with Veglia….

My yellow car has Boxer Trim. It's "of a time" and you either like it, or not.

 

You can actually replace the mast and drive belt in the antenna if the motor still works.....

As to performance, be advised that the 2 valve injected cars of the early '80s are NOT "Pick of the Litter".

An early NON CAT carbed car would be (I have owned three of them)…..


But here's the deal.
This is a clean, unwrecked..straight original car, and you can build any Ferrari engine that fits, and cram it in there!!
This is a good Starting Point for sure.....

 

This car once sorted will be a wonderful well balanced driving experience...
