    Dear all,

I am Louis, from China Beijing, I am the owner of a 2011 Ferrari 612 OTO, pleasure to meet you all.

I’ve learned a lot from what you discussed before, Thanks for sharing all the knowledge that I don’t have before.

My 612’s Bose system doesn’t equipped the iPod connector, Is there any possibility that I can add it on the Bose media system or is there a way to connect with my iPhone in order to Play the music from it ?

The other question is that now I am running this car for seven years, it is the time to change the timing belt. do I need any special individual Ferrari tools to do it or I can Use regular tools to do it in my garage by myself ?

Thank you for anybody who can answer those questions for me have a nice day to you all

You can order the cable from Ferrari I believe and install the cable. Then you can use Tune2Air device to the iPod connector to get a2dp streaming

As for the timing belt, it is possible but you need some special tools .The technique is documented in the workshop manual and there is information on some websites. However, it is easy to make a mistake when indexing the cams, and the mistake can be very expensive. It is better to learn from somebody else before attempting this on your own for the first time .

"...it is easy to make a mistake when indexing the cams, and the mistake can be very expensive."

My local Ferrari tech says the same thing. He's seen a number of 612s with belt replacements gone wrong. Also, a 2008 612 OTO that I got information on back in the summer had suffered some bent valves from a botched belt replacement job by a Ferrari dealer.

Louis, how about some photos of your OTO? You are right at the end of production with your 2011.

Thank you guys for the reply, I tried to upload some pictures of my car but I couldn’t ,the system kept telling me that security error .

My car was built at November 2010, Shipped to China at January 2011. I don’t know if my car is the latest 612 OTO of the entire China, but I didn’t see any 612 newer than mine in China though.

I was really concerned about the timing belt changing, because in China it’s gonna cost around US$10000 from the dealer , it is very expensive money for me to pay.

But as what you said if consequence will be so serious, I am considering to pay for it to the dealer if there is no possibility to do it on my own .

Still many thanks to you guys, you’re really make this forum like a new home to me

There clearly is a significant amount of risk in doing your own timing belt job, but it is worth remembering that it’s just an engine, and one that works in the same basic way as almost every other engine out there. If you’ve done a few timing belt jobs before then, there is no reason why you couldn’t do the same job on a 612. Probably not sucj a great idea to learn “my first timing belt job” on a v12 Ferrari engine.
Setting the cams isn’t such a common task, but then there’s plenty of info online on how to do this using basic tools. And in fairness, many people will just omit this step and go for a simple “lock and swap”. Not saying that’s the best thing to do, but I suspect most people would never tell the difference.

I think it mostly comes down to a state of mind. If you’re willing to get stuck in to the challenge, but take your time over the critical steps, it’s certianly a job that can be done by a competent DIYer. Various people on this forum have done so, myself included, and would be happy to offer advice as you encounter problems. It it scares the hell out of you though, then best to just pay a garage to do it (preferably a good independent specialist rather than a dealer in my opinion).

The Tune2Air is available on Amazon, it's name has changed to Bovee. As far as the cable goes, let me see what I can find .

Are you sure that the cable is not hidden away under the lining of the glove box ? I checked the Bose manual and it was not an option - it was a standard configuration .

no sir, The glove box is completely empty . As far as I know that my car doesn’t have the reverse camera as well.

Seems those options are not available in China back to 2010, otherwise there is no reason that I didn’t click them on the table.

My car was cost US$1 million back to 2010 when I bought it, now the price I think is around US$200,000, The depreciation is ridiculous, same year Ferrari 599 Worth around US$300,000, but I still insanely in love with my 612, I think is the last Pretty 2+2 coupe Ferrari ever built.

Thanks for all the reply, it’s truly heart warm.

My 2008 612 OTO car with the Boise system had the listed Option "Ferrari IPOD" on the origional window sticker and there is a cable for the IPOD in a leather flap on the glove box door. My thought is that all the Boise units are the same and I would bet you could find a port on the Boise system for that cable and just purchase a connecting cable to use with the port. But it would seem that you did have to select the IPOD option with the oritional order to get the IPOD cable wired into the glove box door.

I went through this same ordeal, if you search you may find the thread. The net is that I got the OEM iPod 30 pin connector part and it still didn't work as the firmware in the vehicle still needs to be updated in order to recognize the part. Ferrari wanted like $2500 or something stupid for a simple firmware download to enable it. Let me see if I can find the thread. The option described above refers to a bluetooth to FM audio adapter I believe which would work but sound quality wouldn't be as good. I just went the route of downloading music through the USB port. Not nearly as convenient but not $2500 more either lol

Eric the $2,500 sounds way out of line I would suggest you talk to a different Fdealer or try an independent.

Additionally I would think an Apple tech may solve the problem. But if the work around that you have seems to be working perhaps problem solved. However I believe the Boise system has a lower capacity for content than an IPod would so It may be long term better to update the Boise system? I would be suprised if is a difficult issue to update the Boise system, it would seem that your Fdealer is really the problem. IMO

    A couple of thoughts:

    1) $2500 or not, I'm impressed they could do it at all. The iPod option was $838 new on my car, so I would expect them to charge at least that plus labor, etc to add it now.

    2) Bluetooth FM audio adapters-- bad idea. Been there, done that on other cars and the sound quality is awful.

Don that $2500 was ABOVE the install. I got the OEM ipod adapter part and installed it. It just isn't recognized by the car :(

Yes, I realize that. I'm impressed that they still have whatever hardware they need to flash it, and the software, all on hand.

Does that mean I think $2500 is fair? No, not really. I'm just surprised they can do it at all.

You can't replace the double DIN imho because of the integration with the vehicle settings.

Only the single DIN with a Kenwood etc.

What vehicle settings does the double din have? The vehicle settings come up on the dash menu - not the double din

Yes, but won't it lose integration with the dash display which currently supports phone calls, music source, current track/station, date/time etc ? Or is there a CAN based integration available ?
