I was just goofing off. I see both sides, as sadly I do on most everything. A Ferrari IS just a car but using that simple a perspective, a woman is just a woman and we shouldnt care what they look like or their personality as long as they can breed , which is their purpose....on the most simplistic level. So thats how I would have responded to the person saying a ferrari is just a car.

 

Except to this day i cant figure oout how to use 'affected' vs 'effected' properly!

Years ago I was at a Steve Harvey comedy show in Chicago.
He was ridiculing the verdict and punishment for Michael Vick. He would shout incredulously “... but they’re JUST dogs!!”.
I felt like shouting back “...and Vick’s just a semi-moron football player, why should I give a damn about what happens to him?”.

And after that show, Steve Harvey never got another dime from me.

A Ferrari is not "just a car." It is the ultimate automotive embodiment of passion.

 

One can make their Ferrari into anything they want but I can confirm that in the end it's (just) a car.

I encounter many people that have zero interest in automobiles. I assume your reaction to her 'just a car' statement is based on the context of how/why she said it?

For example, I'm not into handbags. To me, a Birkin bag is "just a bag," and spending 100K on a purse is a foreign concept to me.

Of course, I would try to be as tactful and non-offensive if I do encounter a person with said interests and ownership of said bag, which make me assume she meant it as an intentional slight.

If so, I would venture to conclude she would denigrate you in other ways as well. If you have a nice watch "it's just a watch." You have an original Picasso "it's just a painting" so forth...

As above.. a Louboutin is just a shoe. Leather, glue, staples and that cheap red paint on the bottom. (Why the **** did I spend so much buying my sweetie a pair? and she would have hit me if I even suggested a pair of Converse are equivalent..)
