I want to have a local machine shop make a billet shift gate for a 360. Would love some help from members with a manuel to give some measurements of their oem gate.
Thanks for you help in advance.

I can get you measurements if you would like, but the factory piece is billet, wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy a used one off of eBay?

It is a complex part. You are better off copying an orig part......

Yes but I don’t have access to one. Ideally it would be nice to get a 3D scan and have it done with a CNC.

Another thought... meet up with a local gated person..... and get a clay mold of the part. Just press it in clay in all directions. GL>

I own a CNC machine shop. This gate plate will be painfully difficult, I'd say almost impossible to reproduce. It's curved and gate slots are angled. It's machined from a raw cast. You would need a 5-axis milling machine and program it with CAM. Also the raw material needs to be certain type of aluminium. Even the Cavallino is milled with a 1-2mm diameter bit! And in the end polish the whole workpiece to get a perfect result.

I would definitely steer away from making one and just pay the price of an OEM part. Like the guy in previous thread that promised to show a finished product. Not a word since 2016.

Thanks for that. I was able to plot it out. I just need to get the 4 screws in their location.

If anyone can help with that would be much appreciated
    Thanks

Also if I can get the distance from the right outer edge to the inside of 5-6 slot. I need to center the gate in the body and need a reference, so like any slot to any edge ( top or bottom)

    Thanks again

The slots do not appear to be the correct width in the screen shots. Also it was mentioned that there is a draft angle that exists on the gates except the 3rd and 4th gear slot. I had not noticed this before on my car but it makes sense. You will need the distance from the fulcrum down in the center tunnel to the contact surface in the gate to establish this angle.

Good catch. You can see the draft angle in the photo. I suspect, that all sides of the slots (including top and bottom) have that angle. AND the effective angle will change when he adds the curvature to the plate.

John, the plate you have modelled is only 3-axis machined now. You need 5-axis to make the right angles to the gear slots. Also the whole plate is curved, not straight like in your CAM-picture.

If you can reproduce this part successfully, you are my hero. It is just that much difficult I tell you.

Yes I’m aware of that. I just want to get the basic shape accurately before I work on the top curve.
Just need a little help with the measurements. I used the ones posted from another fchat member but they don’t seem to be correct.

Right edge to inside 5th slot = 13.7mm
Bottom of slots to bottom edge (rear of car) = 27mm
    Finger width = 5.7mm
Right hole to edge = 13.4mm

Starting with a flat blank might be half the battle. Machining down from there with the additional 2 axes may still come under a couple grand. You'd have to leave enough stock to work with though.

Maybe to rough it out but you still have compound angles in multiple directions. Think about the slots being slanted like this \\ || // and that all happens on a curved surface top and bottom; the curve means the top and bottom of each gate is also at an angle. That is why it takes a 5 axis.

Right I understand that. Ah, OK. The thing is, it's still conical too, so it's still rather difficult even along one slot surface.

Thanks Phemes for those dim’s. I moved the slots over as per measurements but something is wrong. Can you confirm the other numbers I used as posted below from another member.

God knows where he got those dimensions. They are garbage or my car is different.

    All dimensions top face.
    Total width = 90.6mm
    Total length = 117.8mm
    Slot width = 10mm
Total slot width (reverse to sixth outer edges) = 59.6mm
Total slot length (top fifth to bottom sixth) = 66.6mm
    Screw centers = 63mm and 90mm.

    Phil.

I would get one 3D printed and test fit before making the real thing !
