I agree on the trend and also agree on earlier comment that people who buy these cars new dont even think about properly using these cars as DD. They just have too many other cars or they fly. I also think that second hand market for these cars then is stuck with people with considerably less means, so they are a hard sell mostly because those who then buy cars at that price range ($130/150k) start seriously thinking about maintenance costs and cost of ownership - they are huge gas guzzlers and particularly here in Europe, at $8/9 per gallon, it does matter for a car you drive 15/20k miles/year (well.. that, plus the annoyance of having to pop by the gas station every 200/miles...). My view at least

Just for clarity, you’re saying the Lusso’s have another 30% left on their depreciation hit... NOT the FF, right? I agree on Lusso, maybe even 40%. FF I don’t see changing more than 10-20% for the next 5 years.

Bought my Lusso last year this time and same car probably could be had for at least $30K less now....that said the year of driving (more than half of my 5 years of 458 ownership) was worth every penny and more....

If you look at the Lusso’s for sale a majority are $100k below msrp. Have been looking at several that are out there. More will hit the market as customers who had to buy a Lusso to get a Pista start to get their Pista’s.

If that was me I would sell the Pista at a profit, order an F8 and keep the Lusso for ever.

I can’t think of a 4 seater GT daily driver I’d prefer to my Lusso. Don’t like the Mercedes or BMW Coupes or the Bentley GT or Wraith. Maybe an Aston, but it’s not a real 4 seater unless you buy the 4 door which is not my favorite model. I don’t know if I’ll ever sell my GTC4 Lusso, but not until I’ve used it for at least 5 years. By then it will be worth half of msrp, but wouldn’t all the others I’ve mentioned be worth half or less?

Agreed the Aston is a great car but the back is not suitable for adults at all....and like the Lusso they will all plummet in value. I’m on a 5 year plan also....

‘Plummet’ in value is a relative term isn’t it? Can’t remember if it was this thread I mentioned it or not but my FF was sold at 29k miles and 5 years at around £130k, a loss of about £130k-£140k (I was not the original purchaser). Over 5 years and achieving a percentage that German premiums can only get at around three years, that’s actually ok for a semi-daily Ferrari. In four years time when my Lusso is likely to go (unless I need it for some other purchase earlier) I guess that £130k is likely to be £150k, which would be a loss of £120k for me. Most of that depreciation is in the first two years and so over 5 years about £25k loss pa for a beautiful V12, four seat Ferrari.....I’m ok with that and it seems far from plummeting!

I reckon the way to think of the Lusso is as a car, not a toy or a collector’s item like the other Ferraris. You could even make an argument for it being the most ‘Enzo’ of all Ferraris - the one that puts his beloved V12 engines at the disposal of gentleman ‘racers’ who want to use his wonderful motor on the road. I reckon he would feel very happy that the cars get use - typical FF/Lusso mileage is higher than the other cars in the range - and his own personal car was a 250 GTE, something of a predecessor to the FF/Lusso.

In your dreams! Lussos, FFs, even 612s, all have many years of depreciation ahead of them, as have Californias, 488s, 458s, maybe even 430s and 360s. Expect to see the more complex ones take a big dip after the warranties and service agreements run out and the sophisticated bits start to need replacement - these will be expensive cars to run in the fullness of time.

They're just too niche to have much price support/demand.

You're young -- you don't need back seats because you don't have kids. You want the 812, 488, etc...
You're older -- you don't need back seats because your kids are grown and don't ride with you anymore. You want the 812, 488, etc...
You're old -- you have grandkids who are very young and you're getting a bit old for low sport cars.

The number of people with kids in that perfect age range is pretty low IMO. Average Ferrari owner is like 50, which means their kids are probably already driving their own cars.

Ultimately the Ferrari SUV will kill the Lusso/FF range of cars. The two seater GT will continue, but I can't imagine their is much of a future for 4 seaters.

Totally disagree. I’m 45, a 4 and a 2 year old. Kids are at their age where I’ll need a back seat for quite some time. SUV is of zero interest to me. I want a sporty 4 seater. There are many like me as well to keep this segment going.....

19 years on from you, I still need a back seat for my 21 year old daughter, and another for the dog. It is also an advantage to be able to carry adult friends. Which is why I have this:

and, like you, I am not into SUVs - for the times when I need the load capacity an SUV would bring, I have an E-class estate, which drives like a proper car.

I'd argue the Porsche SUV is a far, far better transporter in every way than a Maserati. But I get that some dont like SUV's and what they stand for.

For a "transporter" my E-class estate gets my vote over any SUV. The Maserati is my answer to Eric's "sporty 4 seater".

I think you are putting too much of a premium on buyers who have, or want to transport, kids.

What else would you want the seats for then? If I don't need back seats for passengers, I'd just get an F12/812...

I need the back seat because they fold down to make room for shotguns when doing sporting clays

    I also want the awd

Any comparison of Lusso/ FF to current Panamera , especially the Sport Turismo Turbo S E hybrid? Same market?

The problem with the Granturismo is that although it is beautiful from the front and sides it is not so pleasing from the rear with upside down Mondeo lights and a fat ars4. The standard wheels don't fill the arches but more importantly it wont pull a duck off its nest taking nearly 5 seconds to 60 and gasps at around 175. I have a QP and love it to bits, I also have a GT Sport MC and love it to bits but no way on earth can it ever compare with the Lusso.
Can't help but thinking those who don't get the 4 seat Ferrari knock it because it's an easy target. Sure I'll loose 50% of what I paid after maybe 5 years but 'so what' which is the whole point. Those of us who love it and use it aren't losing sleep worrying about how much it will be worth in the morning. It's in my garage because of exactly what it is not as a route to something else or an investment or a track day wonder. Horses for courses...........pun intended.

My dad loved Ferrari’s and purchased an FF at 81 because he could get in and out easier and it had a V12. F12 was too low for him to get out with any dignity. So there is that aspect of the FF/Lusso for older older folks...

I am not suggesting that a Granturismo is a substitute for a Lusso. They are, after all, in very different price brackets. Merely my particular solution to Eric's "sporty 4 seater". The Lusso is yours. In both cases, the depreciation issue is the same, but that's just part of buying (almost) any new car.

Mario (my Granturismo) is deeply upset by your remarks about his posterior and has asked me to tell you that your Lusso reminds him of this:
