The tallest structure in Texas, 2000 ft, as viewed from the F-car. A radio tower a little east of the small town of Rosston, Texas.

It's been in a thread before somewhere here.. but here's a typical video of the maintenance people climbing such a thing! .. elevates my heart rate every time I see heights when done like this!

Yikes! I've seen a few of those YouTube videos, and like you, they make me nervous just watching. I wouldn't climb one of those for a new limited edition Ferrari!

I was about thirty minutes from the VLA. Yes, I did stop to see it.

    Perfect. Worth seeing.

Many years ago, I did not know it was there. Was flying into Albuquerque, looked out the window... "What the H.... is that???" Did some research (before internet) and drove down.

For those reading and not familiar, there are 27 of those 80 foot dishes on RR tracks, on that huge flat plain, that make up the Very Large Array (VLA).

They can be arranged in a 'Y' and other configs to act as one dish many miles in diameter, through a computer.

It was very impressive in person. Photos don't do it justice, but this version is actually much better than the previous one. I cropped my shadow out and it made a nice panorama.

Nice... agree with seeing in person... those dishes are over 10 stories tall.
Only a little over a third of them are in your pic.

The effective diameter of the virtual dish is about 25 miles!

    BTW, nice Fcar.

I grew up in NM... very interested in everything there.
