Which windows? 3.11, Windows ME, Windows Vista? Each version has a different fix, some require editing registry files so it matters IE is awful. Please change Try brave it uses the same engine as chrome and has built in adblockers. https://brave.com/ or opera https://www.opera.com/ or firefox https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ ublock is ****, uBlock Origin is the good one. Since I googled it for you that will be $500 thanks https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock uBlock uses javascript and so do most browsers idiot Even when this laptop was brand new it would of been budget spec. i5-2430M is a dual core not a quadcore. https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/53450/intel-core-i5-2430m-processor-3m-cache-up-to-3-00-ghz.html Windows 7 really needs quadcore and 8gb to run smoothly and last years meltdown patches slowed windows by over 20%. It's time to upgrade. You can easily build a beastly PC for under US$1k. We used to run Quake lans on DEC servers
Thanks for the advice. The laptop was very reliable and bought for my middle daughter years ago for school mostly because of the big screen and USB's, CD, media card and other extras. Didn't know that Windows was slowed 20% last year. I know that when I hit a new page on FChat now it takes up to 30 seconds or more to load due to the adds and then if it has embedded video links its almost useless. Wasn't so last year. I'm sure its time to upgrade but hate Win10 and the whole technology race. Just want to do email and MS Office and FChat. When I was working last year I had folks that took care of this nonsense and now find it frustrating. This one is a Gateway/ASUS. I hate Dell. Thanks again for your help. Best.

If it's just 1 site causing the issue. Try this, it works with Windows 7+8. Goto CMD (run as administrator) and type ipconfig /flushdns (enter) It will come up with "Successfully done etc" Then type netsh int ip reset (enter) Reboot PC see if that fixes it.
It doesn't flush the DNS or reset TCP/IP which is usually the issue when it comes to slow browsing and it's possible the PC has more than one adaptor. Saying that the command to reset an adaptor on windows is netsh winsock reset You can add that to the list of commands above and do it all in one hit
I don't get why you would need to flush your DNS to fix slow browsing. I don't see how that could fix the problem. Your DNS is usually set from your service provider unless you change it otherwise. Resetting your TCP/IP is also done via your router running DHCP, all IP address have a lifespan on DCHP before they reset and re-issue again unless you set your own static IP. Maybe do a tcpdump and check your packet data Running WIN 7 isn't going to help your cause either, IE is not supported anymore and they stopped at IEv11 and Microsoft are pushing everyone to use EDGE. Windows update is another big factor the can cause issues with browsing performance. Older windows OS are no longer being supported, so as browsing technologies improves, running older systems get left behind and struggle. Slow browsing mostly relates to memory usage and not having enough free. Cleaning your registry and clearing out your Temp folders which hold your internet data also helps. Slow browsing can also come from bandwidth issues. These days there is on average about 10 devices connected to your router. Having a cheap router these days doesn't cut it now with so many items that connect to the internet these days. You would probably need to play around with QoS on your router to sort bandwidth issues. If your on the NBN firmware updates on the router always helps keep things running at full speed.
Seriously, I'm running an OLD desktop with only 4GB of ram that is kept meticulously clean of crap (ie , no temp files, cookies, lots of open browsers, etc) and it hasn't been booted every week like most PCs. Has only got ADSL2 access to the world and it has great response times. A year ago it was running like a dog (for everything) and a reboot restored normal transmission ...... but then again I'm only a piss poor Cisco certified engineer so what would I know Oh, and clearing out the temp files actually slows your PC down because the computer then has to download that picture you see each time you load the same page and picture (caching these pics saves time during the fetch process) but it is good to clean all this stuff out if you have a reasonably quick ISP access
Win7 Ultimate. I don't know about changing browsers - sounds scary, as does getting into CMD and dicking around with ipconfig. Other websites are fine, just FChat. All my computers are old. I'm afraid if I fiddle around too much I'll crash the network and have to spend some actual money.
A hint to those with slow chat. Have you tried to change forum's look to "old" (the old FerrariChat based on vB 3.8) and check if it's more responsive for you than with "modern" look?
