1973 246 GTS blower motor help

My guess, is someone cobbled together a Lucas radiator cooling fan motor , p/n 75825, onto the original blower motor housing.

 

Jeremy, I have a dear friend in Italy that finds some of the parts I do not have access to,
owns some of the most amazing cars and rare pieces of kit.

He is not in this business but has helped me heaps in very odd items, not Dino oriented, has connections to the Vatican

If you are in dire needs for the housing, I can enquire.
Yet, if you have most of it, you can most likely pull a mold from the crumbs. Any good glass-man/fabricator can do it.

That is definitely a ventilation fan for the optional Dino A/C system, more popular in the USA than Europe and many parts are from the USA.
I'll bet the cracked housing pinned the impeller blade causing stress and failure to the motor.
Your next big increase in performance would come from cleaning that evaporator out

 

There is a 300 degree metal band inside the vacu-formed squirrel cage with three welded nuts (oversized)
held by 3 tiny rivets. On this, the blower motor is fastened. Overall, a very weak design.

Dino, was partially made by 'Monogram'...

The only long lasting solution, is to recast the whole shebang in fibreglass, with the metal flange embedded.

My friend in Italy came through.
Extremely sturdy as I stood on it at his place in Milano, was extremely kind as he has one of the few
A/C Dino over there. Took the assy. out of his car and his was broken too. Win win.

The squirrel cage is made in one unit even though it has rivets on the side as per originals.

Are there ID markings on the SPAL A/C ventilation fan?

When I said Spal and Lucas, I meant Smiths. Old folks home, here I come.
