This may have given you more benefit than the wrap angle increase (but nothing wrong with maximizing the wrap angle). What prevents a V-belt from moving up one side of the V in the first place is that it increases the belt path length (and, therefore, the belt tension). When the wrap angle is low (like 30 deg or less), the belt path length increase is small for a given move up one side of the V. When the wrap angle is large (like 60 deg or more), for that same amount of movement up one side of the V, the belt path length increase is much larger. In any case, glad it's silent for you now!
BTW, what just came back to my mind, when looking at the picture in my previous post. If someone plans to replace the Aspera compressor with the available York-clones, one has to know, that the threads for the lower bracket bolts are M10x1.25, but the York-compressor comes with UNF-threads. So this project bothered me with removal of the compressor twice, because I realized that issue, when I was close to finishing the job and wanted to install the lower bracket. So I had to drill and tap for M10x1,25 helicoils, like on the old, original Aspera compressor. What I didn't notice unfortunately. For the upper bracket, Ferrari supplied special made studs with M10x1,25 on the nut end and turned down for a UNF-thread on the compressor end. Crazy! Steve, I now wonder, if the time-consuming work making and installing the shims yesterday was really necessary At least it does no harm. Best Regards Martin
How long does it take, till you have lost sufficient refrigerant for the A/C no more working? Would be willing to help, if you want to look into the problem. I did a lot of A/C research and studies during the past months. Before I decided to rebuild mine, I just didn't care about refrigerator technics. Thermodynamics was also not my favourite during my time at school Best from Germany Martin
Thanks for the offer Martin! I too did some research back when I tried to get this working the first time. I ended up replacing EVERYTHING but the hoses. I am not going to recharge until I do that. And as long as I am replacing the A/C hoses I might as well run the new heater hose line, and as it is easier to do this with the fuel tank out I might as well replace all the fuel lines and vapor lines, and to get to those on top I might as well remove the intake plenum, which will give me access to the injectors and high pressure lines as well... but right now it is all together and runs well... ;-) Lester
Hello Steve, My 328 has the York compressor, belt has never squeaked...although that compressor is not very efficient as multi piston compressors like the one in the picture above. John.
Sorry the one above is the York, sorry!!! I meant the picture prior to the one above Today is no my day John.
Looking for a new A/C belt it currently bugs me seriously, discovering, what one has to pay for a 11M925 (A/C) or a 7m975 (wp/alt) in the U.S., compared what dealers charge over here. From $60.00 up to $100.00/each. Best Regards Martin
