At this stage GPS activated on new cars so for now 360/430 owners need not worry !

Black box recorders are going to be needed to be retro fitted into every car to get a car insurance quotation that doesn't look like a teenage boy who's just passed his test and wants to drive an F40...

    Nice..

By 2022 hybrid sports cars with 1000+ hp capable pf 220 +mph will be pretty commonplace..how is this all going to pan out? yes they will have an on/off switch initially but this black box idea is not ideal is it?

How does the speed limiter work on a road that allows unlimited speeds?

There better be a way to switch it off, or no one will buy cars post 2022, and we will all be keeping the cars we bought prior to such dumbass communist rules.... ****ing ridiculous

If this ever comes to the US - new car sales will be cut to a very low level.

I don't think we would limit ourselves with this. Horsepower, social security, and Guns - the third rails of US politics. I am a fan of all three not being infringed.

I can't see this being popular with the big European manufacturers.

Nissan had a speed limiter enabled on the cars unless the GPS recognized the car was on a racetrack. Aftermarket tuners found out quickly how to get rid of that feature. https://gizmodo.com/nissan-gt-r-detects-when-car-is-on-a-race-track-disabl-337096

With the number of idiots out there and cars getting more and more horsepower I think it's not bad for interstate use (via GPS) in the US. Back roads or whatever they can disable it. Most morons I see are those going way too fast on the interstate weaving through traffic and not in my neighborhood with stop signs or regular streets (mainly because traffic lights prevent it).

Unfortunately as soon as you give lawmakers an inch, they want a mile...

So I am not a fan of over-regulation. Hopefully not a P&R subject.

Lets see how this is implemented, what about instances where GPS signal is lost, where speed limits change and lastly what happened to letting people actually have choice? Perhaps instead of stupid over regulation it might be a good idea to educate people properly about how to drive.

You missed the bit on automatic braking....!

Will obviously be very very clever software that will detect the road surface, know its coefficient of friction, know what tires you have on, how old they are, what temp they are and thus their resistance....it will then obviously be able to figure out the correct braking distance that it needs to start applying the brakes. I'm sure it will work wonderfully on mud, snow, ice, 10 year old tires etc. NOT!!!!!

It will be the same as the 35kw restriction in the sportbikes. They remove them and throw them in the trash 10 seconds after they buy the bike :)

And even easier if it's just a software. It will be the same as the 250km/h limiters in the german cars from the near past. Here in Bulgaria you can unlimit a BMW M5 with such a limit in about a minute. So good luck to them. If it ever becomes official, that is.

With environmental sentiment in Germany being what it is I'm surprised it took this long.

Whatever happened to all the Trabants? Maybe they can re-engine all of those with a clean 4 stroke 75HP engine and get you guys out of those big 12cyl Autobahn burners and into a more sensible Trabant?

Horsepower, Social Security and Guns indeed.

It’ll be just like those ******** stop/start systems, the first button you switch off when you get in the car. What a waste of time and money. Imagine all those goody two shoes dicks flashing their lights at us all when we steam past the arseholes

This won't get much traction. By 2022 the EU will be on the verge of collapse anyways. Britain exiting first then the others will follow. I had predicted countries leaving the EU 4 or 5 years ago. I just thought Italy would be the first to leave.
