Hello everyone, wondering if someone has the same issues with their 458's. I have a 2010 458 italia and recently I noticed the "E-diff recovery" light coming on while driving. Car drives fine and shifts normally. Once I turn the car off and restart, the E-diff recovery light goes away. Is there something looming I need to worry about?

One of my older 458’s has this problem when the battery was low. After some charged up and regular driving then fixed the problem itself. Not sure if yours the same issue

E diff pressure sensor malfunction. It’s located within the clutch control plate in the DSG gearbox. Covered under power warranty. Otherwise it’s a 15k gearbox out fix. I’m doing it now on my 2012 458 spider.

Without dealer computer or Leonardo, The way to test it is ct or esc off get rear wheels to spin. If e diff error comes out even occasionally that’s the culprit.

I have a 2010 458 and after 6 months of ownership in 2016 (approximately 12,000 miles), the E-Diff light started coming on. It didn't come on every drive, but I noticed it would come on on the longer drives consistently after 30 minutes or longer. There were no performance issues at all. The car drove normally and shifted normally. I too was told it might be the battery and that it might just clear itself over time. After a month of the E-Diff light continuing to come on, I took it to the Ferrari Dealer. It was diagnosed as having a faulty pressure sensor. At that time, the car was under New Power warranty and the complete gearbox was replaced. I have heard that now they are able to just replace the faulty sensor, without replacing the entire gearbox. I do not know if the fact that the car had a warranty, was why the gearbox was replaced rather than just the sensor, or if at that time, the was replacing just the sensor was not an option.

Thanks for the reply fellas. Anyone know what the cost would be to just replace the sensor and not the entire gearbox?

Safe4Now is a great resource for asking questions like this. He can give you parameters in cost. unfortunately the gearbox sensors have been a consistent issue. The good part of this is most dealers have technicians that know how to do this swap and do not need to replace the gearbox.

Do you think it might be because the battery is weak?

Hi guys, consider changing the DCT fluid ASAP it might help sort the sensor problem out.

if that fails run a diagnostic check on the gearbox.

any sensor changing will require the gearbox to be stripped out.

At that stage I would recommend changing the speed sensor which would require more work but it will be peace of mind.

On the E diff side of things also change the gearbox oil. This gearbox has two separate fluids. DCT F3 fluid and 75w 90 gearbox oil
