That is awesome. I like the kid even more now. Someone , please, retire Vettel Tweet— Twitter API (@user) date
Just as well he did, being stuck behind a unconfident Seb would have meant the *******s at Mercedes had an easy run on him, as it was, without the turbo failure, we’d be celebrating a fantastic start to a young chargers career, and accomplished with far less accompanying ******** than that which came with Verstappen
This wasn't an overtake, he would have had to get out of his own way to not overtake with having such a surplus of speed. Saying that, would be interesting to see if he just went into qualifying mode and cooked his engine with that... that would explain the massive speed difference to Vettel?
Now that I see this, I´m wondering if they told Vettel to let him pass. When I saw it live I thought that it looked too easy.
I'd imagine they wanted him to hang behind Vettel until Vettel pitted at which time they would have sorted it out the old traditional Ferrari way through the pit stop cycles. He probably thought "Not Australia all over again" and handled it himself. I can't imagine it went over that well with Ferrari management but I love him for doing it.
I think I remember Ferrari screwing Kimi thorough pit stop cycles at Monaco? LEC did exactly the right thing in Bahrain.
Not good to disobey orders but he just showed them they're not thinking. I hope Leclerc wakes these morons up to make them learn how to win a race. Funny he didn't even wait one lap and drove around Vettel like taking candy from a baby. He probably told them "I couldn't help it, he was so slow", ha-ha. I think Ferrari are delusional about Vettel and are afraid to hurt his feelings or his perceived status of No. 1. This explains why Binotto couldn't admit to Sky that Charles was a star and that they "have 2 great drivers."
Yes, it did look too easy as if Vettel let off the throttle early intentionally. Maybe he didn't want to risk going wheel to wheel with a teammate and knocking one another out. Leclerc was faster throughout the weekend, but not with a speed differential that large...seemed larger than DRS would provide.
Maybe the audio was from a couple of laps earlier? Anyhow best to shoot first then ask questions later.Someone has to lead the team ,Vettel is obviously incapable of doing it. Vettel even messed up a simple DRS pass , he got too close to the car in front then had to lift off which automatically cancels the DRS..what a plonker !
While I agree that he needs to be assertive and do what's best for him, if he had waited to pass, Hamilton would have caught the Ferraris differently and Seb might not have spun... Just playing devil's advocate.
What they should have done is pitted Vettel before Leclerc at the first stop so he wouldn't get jumped by Hamilton and would have maybe had a bigger gap to him after the second stop. Leclerc had enough of a gap to Vettel that he could afford a later stop.
Good point about the audio being delayed but this story says the kid just went ahead and took what he deserved: https://www.motorsportweek.com/news/id/22215
Hmmmm.... what if Ferrari electronically sabotaged his car to send a message to him not to try that again. Nah...
Why tell him to wait another 2 laps? that would slow Leclerc down..or were they hoping Vettel would speed up ? Vettel is fast moving into Kimi 's shoes. That must be tough to take, so his head is just messed up now.
As for forgiveness; not permission! While I support another team and driver, ( I just don’t like Ferrari currently nor vettel) Leclerc is shaping up to be somebody I’d happily support. Him and lando are the next generation of world champions.
this team orders thing brings back the worst team order in history. 2002 Austria. Jean Todt was literally begging for Rubens to give up his position. I lost so much of respect for the team that day.
