So my understanding is that every shop and dealer will perform their own version of a PPI? Correct? That being said can one provide extra items to check (like provide this list in this thread) to the shop doing the PPI?
I dont know if Ferrari has a standard PPI checklist or every dealer differs. The list I compiled on the first page are the known weak issues of 360 and F430 that in my opinion should be given to the dealer so that they can specifically pay attention to those areas to make sure they dont miss it and report back to you their findings. Yes, you can provide the list I created on the first page to the dealer doing the PPI. My vote is to take a Ferrari car to either a very reputable independent Ferrari mechanic that has years of experience or take it to an official Ferrari dealer as they know these cars inside and out. PPI cost varies from dealer to dealer. I've seen them as low as $500.00 and as high as $1,200.00. Hope that helps. Dan
I would include checking the play with the ball joints, mirrors and taillights..... plus check timing cover and oil sump plate for oil weeping.
Was that from a Ferrari dealer and includes compression and battery load tests? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
No, it was done by an independent shop specializing in Ferrari's. Around here, Ferrari dealers won't do PPI's from what I understand.
The key thing is the tech doing the inspection. If he has experience with Ferraris, then that is not an issue. It is important the tech knows where to look for the typical problems. A good Tech with no Ferrari experience will still catch a lot of stuff and be a lot better than no inspection.
Thank you for sharing, some good common sense things easy to overlook when the bigger items are looked into.
Hi, seems the link is broken. Was it removed or am I missing something? TIA. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
You are most welcome. Feel free to post here if you have any other questions and we will try our best to answer them. Kindly do a search first as most likely its been asked before and there are plenty of answers / inputs here already posted. All the best to you. Dan
Hello I'm writing buying guide for the F430 but in french because there is not such a guide. I got lots of informations in this forum but i'm interested with the PPI mentionned previously. Is it possible to send it to me ? guillaumel458 at netcourrier.com
Hello, I have attempted to download the checklist but unfortunately it seems the link is broken. Would you be able to repost? Thanks so much Sent from my SM-T867V using Tapatalk
I’d add to the list. Do a paint thickness check to look for body work on all the panels. I’d also document any rock chip larger than a pin head. Don’t forget tire age not just tread. If you have challenge grill, check for hairline cracks in the corners by the grill. Check if mirrors are loose. Check if tail lights are loose. Check for intact under carriage panels. Check if the side windows line up. And finally. Check for slack in the door handle cables. If any of these things are not good, try to negotiate the repair cost into the price or get some sort of price consideration to get them repaired. No 2nd hand car is perfect, but you don’t want to be surprised when your tail lights fall out or you door stops opening. I think that’s all I can think of right now. First time I've heard all these detailed additions on top of the common "things to look for". Really detailed but I wonder who does paint thickness check these days? Must be a special department because I have tried multiple inquiries to dealerships as well as Indy shops and none of them want to even come close to checking for any paint repair or body work - assume for liability reasons - so to get all these things done/checked would probably cost the buyer $1200 - $2000 in current market.
