Yep, that yellow can make a cloudy day bright.
Remember seeing the launch C6 convertible in Yellow at the NY auto show. Thought it was called Millennium Yellow. Anyway enjoy. I may have a '13 427 convert in my future.
Millennium yellow is a older color. Velocity yellow replaced it. 1581 yellow vettes made in 2006 out of 36,000 made.
I joined the corvette forum but have not posted yet. Did a paid subscription too but it looks to be a tough crowd to newbies. Same screen name.
Have not posted yet. Been reading on there off and on for months, then bought a C6. Started out wanting a c5 z06. Trying to find the rest of my car pics for the album, as its cool to actually have them in one place!
Congrats! Enjoy it. You have not lived until you have at least tried a couple of trackdays. Put that on your list of things to do. I'm only on the CF racing forum. If you need anything feel free to ping me.
Exactly! You are so close to many great tracks. I know what I would be doing each weekend if I lived there.
So I offered to buy some brake calipers on the Vette forum and they think I am a scammer. Eric? Any help?
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c6-parts-for-sale-wanted/4253131-c6-z51-oem-black-powder-coated-brake-calipers-and-brackets-2.html Jesus Christ. My vette has corrosion on the wheels and brakes and would like black or red calipers. I also called Corvette world and asked if i could buy some better take off C6 wheels as the ones on the car are nasty. Parts for these cars are cheaper than anything I have dealt with in the past. Why the dudes are scammer happy is beyond me, as I provided my full info via PM.
There is a reason I did not maintain my account over there. I read the thread and everything seemed to be progressing until some idiot piped in. On a good note, your right about parts. I would buy new vs used anyway. If the budget allows I would go with aftermarket from LG Motorsports and set of wheels. Aside from tires you could be all in for under $5k if you stay away from the pricey name brands.
Yea the corrosion on my wheels and brakes is a downer and was not visible in the pics Corvette World had. Brakes feel great and do not squeal so its my cosmetic OCD at work as the rest of the car is clean.
I did notice a little on the wheels and thought I mentioned it. I also thought it would come off too. For brakes go look at some of the GM parts vendors over there. GM Parts Direct comes to mind.
Yes sir, you did mention the wheels needed attention. I tried Flitz on the wheels, and I have had that stuff perform miracles. Someone offered to look at their C6 tack off pile as they think they have the z51 brakes they can sell. No rush as the updates are a "nice to have" thing. Drove the car in nice weather yesterday to let my parents see it and get a feel for it on a 50 mile trip. (Work is only 4 miles from my home and have not driven it to work. ) I have had many cars. I wish I had bought a C6 many cars ago. I have read complaints from reviews about the steering on the earlier cars that was improved in 2008. Grew up with crappy 70's cars and the 2006 steering feels fine to me on public roads. Have looked at prices many, lesser cars are commanding and I really question the market now. $20,000 will get you into a decent C6, $25k say for a nice 2008. I have not owned anything that can match the safety, performance, cost and gas mileage. To the doubters and naysayers, I say drive a z51 or a GrandSport. These are damn fine cars.
I second your opinion. I had a pristine 2012 Centennial ZR1 that was awesome. However, I got more enjoyment out of my C5Z. Sometimes all out speed isn't everything there is to making a great car. As I get older I am finding myself going backwards toward cars with less gadgets in them.
Wow, i did not know you had a ZR1! What was it like to live with? These cars are so freaking fast I find myself way out of talent to "push" them, and forget public roads.
To live with was a PIA. The carbon fiber splitter was constantly an issue. I broke two of them. The car was not a daily so I replaced them because they really looked good. On the track, fast as hell. It was the brakes that made it do what it did. Way out braking where I would normally. If you look in the American Muscle thread at the top of this section go to post 792 and there she is on the last road trip I took her on. So I am looking to get another C5Z and make it the way I want including adding the CCB brakes. Then I will have the perfect car for me.
Forgive the question, but why not get an LS3 C6 Z51 Vette and upgrade the z51 / J55 brakes? Do you prefer the C5Z?
I think the lines of the C5Z are the best of all the late models. It also a more capable car than a C6 Z51. Go back and look at the SCCA T1 class records it still holds. The C5Z was still dominating well into the C6 production run. They finally had to change the rules to get it out. Like I said, drive one and all questions are answered. If I had to make a comparison, it would be like the F355 to the 360. The 360 is a great car no doubt but the F355 has a cult following for a reason. So does the C5Z.
This really sums up why the C5Z is as cool as it is. It was made in a magic moment in time. First it started out as an economy Corvette and wound up a race car.
