Disagree. The "teammates" of Piquet Junior you're talking about is just one teammate: Fernando Alonso. He even beat Alonso in two or three races if I am not mistaken. To me it's an impressive result for a rookie to beat a two-time world champion. But Piquet did do many mistakes in his debut year, though. The reality is that Briatore killed his F1 career, if not he would have moved to another team and the history would be other. He was the first champion of F-E against very strong drivers. Vandoorne is a very talented driver who was victim of a terrible team, the same happened to many people before: Zanardi, Da Matta, etc. Norris did a "poor" F2 season? Really?! He was a rookie in a team that was clearly behind Prema and DAMS.
Correct....In fact he'd have to win the FRenault 4 times on the trot to get the necessary points...in fact Kimi only really competed in regional formula renault, he only did a few races of European Renault. Kimi's move to F1 wouldn't happen, wrongly, because from day 1 he proved to be pretty handy behind the wheel. The 18 and older rule is fine but apart from that I think their requirements are too high since it doesn't seem to matter much. I just looked up the rules and Verstappen wouldn't have been allowed, either! Even if he was 18 at the time....
Maybe you're right on PJR, I just took a couple of the top of my head examples. We had the the Norris discussion before, IMO he did not perform truly to what I expected. I know teams matter even in spec cars but from the hype I just expected more wins or podiums for that matter. the point is some drivers stall when they get to the highest level and some get better, for whatever reason.
Vague memories come to mind. Was that the idiot who did a bar fight and got arrested and thus couldn't drive F1 and MS was the replacement? Can't remember for sure.
Gachot had an altercation with a London taxi driver after a traffic incident. He did spray a can of lacrymal gas in the guy's face to defend himself - he said.. They are considered as offensive weapon and banned in UK. Gachot was arrested for the offence, charged and tried. I think he made a short come-back in F1 driving a Pacific.
Yeap more less Andreas. Sometimes, things do happen for a reason. If he didn't meet that taxi that day, who knows if we might even had Schumacher in F1.
Yep, I don't think Gachot was at the same level as Schumacher though, but we will never know. That's fate for you ...
F2 race is on, exciting so far. Young mick doing well starting from last and moved very nicely up the field, up to 10th already in just 3 laps!
Schumacher finishes a BRILLIANT 5th, beating his teammate who was leading the race in lap 1! Fantastic especially for having started last! He drove much more aggressively this weekend. An unfortunate spin yesterday after running in the top 5.
Give him another year in F2 to home his craft and mature, then get him into F1 and ultimately into Ferrari!
I sure hope we give him a bit of time to get his race craft together, but the way Antonio is doing right now, you never know about next year.
Schumacher puncture after being hit on first lap....will be a long race for him and ruin his race for tomorrow also.
