Hello all, I went for a drive this morning, ambient air temp of 58 F and all is well, except that the oil temperature never got above the 165 F mark. Seems low to me but then again the car has always run cool. Any comments or suggestions? Are the gauges reasonably accurate? Do the sensors fail like this? Do your ears hang low? Thanks, Lester
lester, Seems a tad low to me indeed. But only a tad. I usually have about 85° centigrades, which is 185° f, on both cars ('89 GTB and '89 GTS). However, it also depends how long your drive was, as water temp climbs quickly on these cars, but oïl temp climbs much slower (conversely, water temp goes down pretty quickly when the car is driven steadily outside town, after a spell in city traffic, oïl temp takes longer to go down). Rgds
I spent this last weekend driving the 328 a couple of hundred miles often at or near triple digit speeds. My oil temp gauge works perfectly and I don't think the oil ever went over 170. I don't see a problem.
Well about 15 miles, some traffic but some parkway driving as well. Water temp has always been on the low side but I'm always concerned about low oil temp. What you said makes sense I'll drive a longer distance in 80 F going home tonight. Thanks!
Mine is the opposite. My oil temp nearly pegs out all the time. Normal water temp. Any condition, any driving style. It's been about 5 or 6 years now. No one can figure out what is going on.
I'm sure it was checked years ago but incase it was a elementary overlook, where does the ground for this circuit attach?
Remove the wire from the sender, see what the gauge does. Next, ground the wire to the block itself and check the gauge.
